Helmi takes the reins for the latest video for Rosalía, and imagines the sadness at the heart of her song Bagdad, with a new twist on&nbsp;a classic metaphor of heartbreak.As she withdraws to a toilet stall in a club bathroom, in the aftermath of a devastating phone call, Rosalía starts to cry. And she keeps crying, the equivalent of crying a river. The water rises in the stall, and&nbsp;Rosalía&nbsp;is resigned to&nbsp;drowning in her own tears.&nbsp;In the way that has marked out all her videos so far, Helmi mixes passion, grittiness and fantasy to make a wholly seductive piece for this&nbsp;sensational Spanish artist.&nbsp;

Simon Cahn explores the duality of success in this harrowing, nightmarish video for Danny Brown.Predominantly featuring Brown suspended from chains in a car park, or being dragged along the floor, the visuals here are simple yet striking. Intercut with archival footage of Reagan and Bush Sr. plus Danny Brown himself on a political rostrum, and mixing newer digital and older VHS formats for an intense gut-punch clip.&ldquo;Pneumonia feels like a surreal nosebleed torture of a track &ndash;&nbsp;in all the best ways,&quot; says Cahn. &quot;I tried to get the same emotions in the video. Big up to Danny for hanging upside down in the air all night.&rdquo;

A momentous wait demands a momentous video. It&#39;s been 16 years since the last time The Avalanches released new music. Now its finally arrived, it was beholden on Fleur Fortune&nbsp;(from Fleur &amp; Manu)&nbsp;to produce something substantial for the first video. And Fleur has&nbsp;certainly delivered.&nbsp;The video for Frankie Sinatra&nbsp;takes a Harmony Korine-esque depiction of the Southern United States as a carnival of strange, and then runs with it at full speed towards full-on surrealism.Everyone here sips a drink that glows as if irradiated - the effects of which blur the lines of perception. Dogs operate heavy machinery, food comes to life and fishermen find themselves in a Vietnam War flashback, complete with assault weapon/brass instrument hybrids.It&#39;s a rich tapestry of great looking, funny scenes, and a seemingly massive logistical undertaking. Everything down to the casting has been executed meticulously. A music video worthy of the band who brought us the crazy genius of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8BWBn26bX0" target="_blank">Frontier Psychiatrist</a>.

Thomas Rhazi has helmed this gutsy, sexy,&nbsp;VFX&nbsp;heavy video for American producer&nbsp;Baauer&#39;s&nbsp;Gogo, which sees a couple&#39;s budding relationship - its&nbsp;passionate highs and terrible&nbsp;lows&nbsp;- playing out inside a vehicle that is hurtling towards Earth.The rush of&nbsp;adrenaline resulting from the sense of impending doom really&nbsp;makes the&nbsp;sexiness all the more intense&nbsp;and the passion&nbsp;all the more palpable. And Rhazi&#39;s audacious concept has been realised beautifully, thanks to brilliant VFX work by the team at Mathematic in Paris.&nbsp;

Gondry is like the stranger who comes back to town. He walks into the dive bar of some small Pennsylvania mining settlement. All of us there, huddled around our drinks. Soot on our faces.&nbsp;He used to be a regular. But now he&rsquo;s a stranger. A few of the old miners glance up when he walks in. They nod their heads. Surprised to see him back in these parts. He&rsquo;s gotten older. Wrinkles on his face.The younger ones hardly take notice. We&rsquo;ve spent so long looking at the portrait of him behind the bar. From his younger days. We don&rsquo;t recognise him now. He looks so different. Back then, he had that spark in his eye. When he used to go down into the mine and come back with the most incredible finds. Unimaginable minerals. Impossible rock formations. Like no one had ever seen. So many others went down with him, only to come up empty handed.But that was then. Now, he seldom comes back. The last time he strolled in, our ears barely perked up.&nbsp;Once, he even came back with an old friend. We heard all the stories, of course. The stories of their adventures. We&rsquo;d watch old VHS tapes of the beautiful things they brought up from the mine. VHS tapes the bartender kept in a dusty box behind the bar. We still watch them today. The images now fuzzy. Marred with static after years of wear.<blockquote>&quot;Like ever, Gondry reminds us. There&rsquo;s still gold in them&nbsp;hills.&quot;</blockquote>The last time, only a few paid attention. The rest of us turned our heads. We sank into our drinks. Muttering to each other about the damn Mining Company. How they&rsquo;re screwing us all. Talking about the good old days we never even experienced. When the Mining Company let the miners explore. When they used to send them down with all the equipment they needed. When the pickaxes were new. When boots were strong and flashlights were bright.So these days, we keep to ourselves. But Gondry has strolled back in. And he&rsquo;s found something. Something peculiar. Like he used to. We huddle around. We look in awe. After all this time, how does he still do it? Goddamn if he still can&rsquo;t wow us. Goddamn if he doesn&rsquo;t remind us why so many of us wanted to go down into the mine in the first place.We don&rsquo;t know how long he&rsquo;ll stick around. How many bizarre minerals he may still find. How many he&rsquo;s kept hidden away for himself. But that&rsquo;s not what matters.Tomorrow we go back to work. Back into the darkness. Into the deep. Mining Company be damned. They&rsquo;ve taken our tools. They send us in with with bare hands. Our knuckles bloodied. Our lungs filled with ash. But like ever, Gondry reminds us. There&rsquo;s still gold in them hills.

Megaforce&#39;s video for Brodinski ft SD&#39;s Can&#39;t Help Myself instantly draws you in with its deeply cinematic opening of a near-naked late middle-aged man walking through a&nbsp;deserted sub-city road&nbsp;tunnel. It&#39;s a hell of an opening shot as the camera speeds towards him.&nbsp;And in the French directing quartet&#39;s first video since&nbsp;the string of mighty vids, for Dizzee Rascal, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Is Tropical, that led them to win best director at last year&#39;s UKMVAs, the pace never slackens.&nbsp;But from the moment the man goes through a transformative process (as he smokes, drinks and eyes some diamond rings on his TV)&nbsp;that turns him into a younger man &ndash; who then heads for the same tunnel &ndash; we are invited to ponder what appears to be the premise: if you had the chance to go back, and do it all over again,&nbsp;would you do better - or would just repeat the same mistakes?&nbsp;&nbsp;

Charlotte Gainsbourg 'Terrible Angels' by Nathalie Canguilhem

Maybe Tricky was thinking about the British variety when he wrote Council Estate. But as we know from the likes of Romain Gavras's controversial Justice video, the French equivalent can be equally grim.

But actually, for it's tough setting - and Tricky comes over as his usual brooding self - this has a positive, quietly hopeful message. And Valerie still manages to get some stop-frame work in there. All in all, it's bloody good.
