Joseph Delaney directs an intense double-performance, counter-balancing&nbsp;the industrial/rock band Drownd&nbsp;with a group of contemporary&nbsp;dancers.&nbsp;Choreographed by Simon Donnellon, the dancers (from the Ballet Rambert school) feed off the raw aggression of the band in a deserted venue, and Delaney's surprising&nbsp;juxtaposition of the differing styles of performance pays off.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

James Bay keeps watch over&nbsp;an old-school high street video shop, where he reminisces about a past&nbsp;love, in&nbsp;Jake Jelicich's absorbing video for Alesso &amp; Marshmello's Chasing Stars.&nbsp;As Bay plays 90s and 00s VHS tapes&nbsp;on analogue TVs dotted around his cosy store, Jelicich switches between the warmth of&nbsp;the singer's performance and glitchy tape footage, replaying transitionary memories of time gone by. It works really well in creating a sentimental and nostalgic sensibility around the song.[imgtoken data:1]Then as light is revealed behind the VHS shelves, Bay eventually breaks free of the four walls of the store, and suddenly he is on a beach with his old love. It's all made possible by Jelicich and his team having custom-built the video store, with terrific attention to detail for memorabilia of the period, in a studio. Then they headed for Margate to shoot that crucial end sequence.With a winning performance from James Bay,&nbsp;the video fittingly pays homage to a wide array of 90s/00s films, including Empire Records,&nbsp;Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Interstellar&nbsp;and The Ring. Above all,&nbsp;Jelicich has paid homage to the late, lamented&nbsp;video store itself - and done a really splendid job.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joseph Delaney directs a dark, ominous promo for Dylan Fraser.&nbsp;The video for Nightmare sees the artist entombed in a clandestine room, clinical and cold in its aesthetic and isolated from the outside world.&nbsp;Under the omnipresent surveillance of various cameras - and clones of himself - the concept visualises the fear of being trapped both mentally and physically, and plays with distorted timelines and&nbsp;doppelgängers to evoke feelings of fear and desperation.&nbsp;

Olivia Dean laments the infatuation we have with bad relationships&nbsp;in Fiona Jane Burgess's stripped back video for Crosswords.&nbsp;Lounging around the house in a series of different rooms and positions, Dean's understated performance is paired with cosy art direction, to express her&nbsp;contentment with&nbsp;being alone. Warm pastel colours fill the frame, interspersed with conceptual shots of fish and oranges floating in a bathtub.The song explores the idea of being madly in love with someone and placing them on a pedestal, yet the video takes the angle of a more mature Dean looking back on a time in her life, which is a brilliant perspective.The soft, natural lighting&nbsp;creates a wistful vibe that runs through the visual, and&nbsp;Matthew Emvin Taylor's use of slow zooms and considered composition elevates the aesthetic.&nbsp;The use of subtle VFX adds another layer to the setups, exploring the dichotomy of love vs loneliness through shadow and altered perspectives, the final polish to a poignant and impressive promo.&nbsp;

Joseph Delaney's latest collaboration with Naked, plunges once again into the world of BDSM-flavoured&nbsp;Techno Goth, with this eye-opener for industrial-electronic outfit Bite.Following his video for the band's Drome and other works featuring the band's music, Delaney reveals the extreme bondage culture, from dungeon to dining hall, in ways that are extreme, experimental, harrowing and also very stylish. And Bite lead singer Agnes Gryczkowska is the compelling focus throughout.&nbsp;The video was made in collaboration with SORT: a multidisciplinary project born out of the underground queer/noise/techno crossover communities founded in 2015.

Northwestern folklore and criminal romance collide in this cryptic and seductive video by Kes Glozier.“They say an ancient law still exists whereby you can kill a Welshman. But it has to be within the walls of Chester, after midnight, with a crossbow. I think.” What an intriguing introduction. Bust This Town was inspired by a real medieval by-law - the product of frosty cross-border relations between the Welsh and English.&nbsp;There is no record that this law was ever repealed. The video follows two lovers on the run, who build&nbsp;a love nest in a derelict manor house.&nbsp;Making oblique references to the Chester by-law, Glozier creates a tense, fatalistic atmosphere around the romance, skilfully stretching this historical detail into an analogy for disharmony in a relationship.Glozier plays a similar game here as in his fantastic video for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/08/06/hak-baker-lad-kes-glozier/60118">Lad by Hak Baker</a>. In this tense piece of realism, the director took an approach comparable to Lynne Ramsay's films,&nbsp;teasing inevitable violence with tiny gestures and character details.The video also has the remarkable distinction of being photographed by Seamus McGarvey, BSC. The acclaimed DoP is a go-to for tragedy. Having shot We Need to Talk About Kevin&nbsp;(Lynne Ramsay),&nbsp;Atonement and&nbsp;Anna Karenina (Joe Wright), McGarvey is a master communicator of volatile atmospheres and dangerous temperaments.“It’s my own version of Bonnie and Clyde," says Glozier.&nbsp;"A story of love and madness, inspired by my own personal love and madness.”
