Duncan Loudon imagines the life of a stuntman in his remarkable video for DJ/producer Tourist.Loudon takes us on to a film set, and into the world of stuntman-supreme Andy Bennett, as he goes about his daily business - and at the same time, also childminds his young daughter. And it all leads up to one of the most terrifyingly impressive of all movie stunts, when Bennett is doused in petrol and set alight, and then becomes a walking man on fire.Loudon establishes a mesmeric tone with a combination of documentary and impressionistic teasing beyond the frame of reality. Bennett also plays the part of the leading actor that he is doing stunts for. The division between the two is not easily distinguishable.But then there is of course the setpiece stunt. It is unmistakeably&nbsp;authentic,&nbsp;and Loudon takes us right into this feat of technique and sheer courage - and makes it poetic.&nbsp;Brilliantly achieved.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;[imgtoken data:2]

A young woman pours the ashes of&nbsp;her beloved late mother into her running shoes and leaves her suburban home - wielding a pole vaulter's pole - in a race against time...Hard Drive Gold, the latest release ahead of alt-J's fourth album The Dream (out on Feb 11th)&nbsp;has a video that follows in the tradition of the band's consistently excellent track record in visuals - particularly those that put a different spin on dramatic suspense. In this case, it comes from a new directing duo, consisting of&nbsp;an alt-J bandmember and his partner: Newman-Wallace are the band's singer and guitarist&nbsp;Joe Newman, and&nbsp;choreographer Darcy Wallace.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We follow the young woman - played by Ellie McCartney - as she drags the pole from her garage, and then pounds through nearly empty suburban streets with it, as if she is on the longest-ever pole vaulter's run-up. This striking image is made even more mysterious by the&nbsp;context - the imminence of a nuclear attack and, as a result, the mostly panic-stricken behaviour of her neighbours.[imgtoken data:1]Finally she reaches her destination - but can she complete her leap before the missiles strike?Newman-Wallace's highly cinematic directing debut was shot by Krzysztof Trojnar, and executive produced by Andrew Law, longtime commissioner of alt-J's videos, now head of music and special projects at&nbsp;Biscuit Filmworks."It was a great privilege to work with Joe and Darcy on their debut piece of filmmaking,which I think is a brilliant music video that stands tall next to the rest of the band's enviable canon of work," says Law. It&#39;s hard being a clown in Duncan Loudon&#39;s video for Canadian artist MorMor.As with his acclaimed videos for Flohio, Loudon embraces lo-fi camera trickery to create a world around MorMor. The loss of innocence, and the level of isolation and brutality in the modern world is expressed through old school techniques that the director makes fresh.&nbsp;It was shot on 16mm and 35mm,&nbsp;and the film scanned at Electric Theatre Collective.&nbsp;&ldquo;It was so cool to do all the post, including film scanning in one place,&quot; says producer India Lee. &quot;It felt like the old school way! Normally when you send your film off that&#39;s that and you can&#39;t relook at it or rescan it due to the usual time and cost issues.. but at Electric this isn&#39;t the case and you have full control over your project. Love it.&rdquo;Colourist Luke Morrison adds: &ldquo;The whole purpose of investing in a scanner was to allow us to support directors shooting on film, and also enable us to have control of the images we are working on and enables us to handle tight turn arounds and deadlines for our clients. It was fantastic to partner with Duncan and the team at Somesuch.&rdquo;
