Rina Sawayama and Ali Kurr's previous videos, for STFU!&nbsp;and <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/04/30/rina-sawayama-xs-ali-kurr/64485" target="_blank">XS</a>&nbsp;have shown an artist capable of taking on vibrant, madcap personas. The video for Bad Friend is another case entirely, and just as intriguing: Rina becomes a character in an old Japanese movie - a young male salaryman, who's heart has just been broken.Taking their seat in a dive bar,&nbsp;Sawayama's character stares at a wedding ring in a mist of cigarette smoke. It's been a bad day, and it's time to drink away all the emotions.&nbsp;Then they are suddenly interrupted by another older customer, who insists the sad salaryman accept his offer to drink whisky with him.Then things take their course, as they do in bars. Misery turns to drunken jollity - but then things turn surprisingly nasty. Things degenerate into a believably messy bar brawl, to the horror of the&nbsp;few other inhabitants of the bar. But that's not quite the end of the story...From the intriguing setting - and&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Amelia Hazlerigg gives this a real film noir flair that elevates the dramatic mood from the start - it is a wonderfully well-constructed and performed narrative that makes this arguably Sawayama and Kurr's&nbsp;most satisfying collaboration yet.

Rina&nbsp;Sawayama laments materialism in the time of global warming, in Ali Kurr's tongue-in-cheek video for XS.&nbsp;Described&nbsp;by Sawayama as a "kind of a mockery of everyone, including myself", the visual portrays&nbsp;her as a bubbly&nbsp;QVC-like salesperson, hawking a shimmering beverage that’s 99% 24k gold and 1%… plasma?&nbsp;As the clip plays out, it’s revealed that the shopping channel host isn’t what she appears, and the source of the drink’s “new improved recipe” is a macabre Soylent Green nightmare.Part-Stepford Wives, part-Alien vs Predator, and all-round brilliant, the video is as&nbsp;exciting and unabashed as the track, which repeatedly circles from Pop to R&amp;B and thrash metal&nbsp;in its four-minute runtime.Liz El Kadhi's art direction is a real highlight, utilising vibrant colours and props to offset the spooky undercurrent, paired with&nbsp;Celia Arias' slick styling, in Ali Kurr's second collaboration with Sawayama, following the equally vibrant video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/11/26/rina-sawayama-stfu-ali-kurr-now-signed-darkroom/62096" target="_blank">STFU!</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the video for Human Contact, Ethan Graham explores a narrative that follows The Howl &amp; The Hum’s lead singer, Sam, as he journeys through a derelict space where people have all been consumed by technology.In what could be seen as a parallel universe, or dystopian future, people have been so affected that they no longer act or move like humans. Sam gives an engaging performance as he tries to resist the contorted movements of those around him, choreographed by Abdourahman Nije. The haunting track is fuelled by a slow-burning, propulsive beat which builds to a fiery crescendo.

Metronomy frontman Joseph Mount's second video for the band, following the recent Lately, is a dancefloor-ready comedy about gentrification and ice cream.The visual stars Metronomy’s members as an ice cream vendor, his fluffy partner,&nbsp;their 80s trendy focus-group rivals, who open a rival gelato stand,&nbsp;and a parlour band - and all is revealed about the unlikely emergence of salted caramel ice cream.The lighthearted, and lo-fi vibe has the&nbsp;cuddly artifice&nbsp;of little kids' TV&nbsp;shows like The Hoobs and The Tweenies (perhaps with a dash of peerless kids TV spoof, Don't Hug Me I'm Scared).&nbsp;But perhaps surprisingly,&nbsp;Mount cites Rammstein as the influence for his&nbsp;"lolathon” visual.&nbsp;&nbsp;“Years ago a friend of mine gave me a VHS tape of the MTV show 120 Minutes,” said Mount of the video’s inspiration. “It’s something I’d get him to do every so often as I was a bit obsessed with music TV at the time. On one particular tape was the video for ‘Sonne’ by Rammstein, I’d never seen them before and it blew my mind. This video is a sort of homage to that, but with an added story about the gentrification of ice cream parlours.”

In a career now spanning over a decade Metronomy have made some outstanding music videos, working with directors like&nbsp;David Wilson, Daniel Brereton, Dent de Cuir and Michel Gondry. But here's a landmark moment, for their new song Lately:&nbsp;for the first time the band's frontman Joseph Mount has taken up&nbsp;directing duties himself.And, with a combination of performance, lo-fi VFX, and dry humour,&nbsp;it's very Metronomy. There's&nbsp;a nod to the '80s, and in particular the classic film Honey I Shrunk The Kids, as Mount and his fellow bandmembers emerge from the spools of a cassette tape, found by a schoolgirl in the park and brought back to her bedroom.&nbsp;But the tiny band need to be careful, especially&nbsp;when the teenager's dad threatens to squash the band...

Helman&#39;s ambitious four-part video for new artist shey baba reflects upon the ages of one man, his memories, transcending the past, and finding love.Shot in Kiev, with cinematography by James Laxton (who also shot Moonlight), Helman creates a powerful interconnected vehicle for Requiem, the LA singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist&#39;s debut album.In each part, Helman focusses on the individual at different ages of his life&nbsp;- he&#39;s a boy in Born Sick, a young man in Vertigo, the older man looking back in Requiem; and then we return to the young man, with his partner, for the uplifting I Want It All. A double-bill of videos for debuting&nbsp;downbeat R&amp;B singer&nbsp;Kenzie by Camille Summers-Valli. And the artist and the director collaborated closely on the premise of the videos that were inspired by lucid dreaming.&nbsp;Dark July introduces us to Kenzie in reoccurring narratives, all which build with tension and perplexing encounters. Set in a luxurious hotel, Kenzie&#39;s interactions with the other guests in the hotel lobby, corridors and her room&nbsp;are dreamlike and sensual,&nbsp;the symbolism derived from common tropes that Kenzie and Camille associate with.&nbsp;The Funeral video responds&nbsp;to the strong sense of symbolism within the track - the &quot;dressed up for my funeral&quot; line that implies a contradictory sense of confidence - which is relayed as Kenzie&#39;s slow progress through the rain-soaked streets.Impressively shot by DoP&nbsp;Maximillian Pittner, both&nbsp;videos were shot on location in Bulgaria&nbsp;on a tight budget. Producer Mayling Wong says that the project was &quot;a labour of love&quot; for it&#39;s hard-working crew.&nbsp;It&#39;s certainly&nbsp;one&nbsp;that will help put Kenzie, and Camille Summers-Valli,&nbsp;on the map.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In this mesmerising promo for Roses Gabor, Sophie Jones draws inspiration from classical Renaissance art and still life and gives it a very contemporary twist.&nbsp;Jones juxtaposes traditional imagery with modern black figures to create a moving work of art - at first a serene piece, but one that becomes increasingly frenetic and intense and the energy picks up in the song.&nbsp;The beautifully styled cast start moving with abandon, with&nbsp;transported expressions to match the imaginative fuzzy electronics of Illusions.&nbsp;

Jake Jelicich has responded to&nbsp;Australian rock outfit DMA's take on vintage Britrock (and the ringing endorsement of Liam Gallagher) with a video with a real classic feel, exhibiting the director's qualities as DoP as well as director.Jelicich&nbsp;has placed the band among a group of&nbsp;mysterious black-clad figures positioned around architecturally striking locations in London (Anthony Gormley-style). Despite the setting, this is far from ominous. The monochrome-tinted video itself has a very tranquil feel to it, as the viewer drifts from one concrete-heavy panorama to another,&nbsp;accompanied by the lead singer's soothing vocals.This marks a visual departure for the band, who have commented: "We really liked Jake's previous videos and wanted to give him full creative control for Do I Need You Now?. He captured the mood of the song perfectly, and it was nice to just stand still for once."
