And of course, there are echoes of Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U, recalling&nbsp;her&nbsp;feisty exchange with Sinead following her&nbsp;Wrecking Ball video. So now Sinead is gone, there is something really quite poignant about this.&nbsp;

Timothy Saccenti directs a super-intense&nbsp;performance promo for Metallica.&nbsp;Following the hypnotic promo for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u-7rWKnVVo" target="_blank">Lux Æterna</a>&nbsp;- also directed by Saccenti -&nbsp;that was released at the end of 2022, the video for Screaming Suicide is more of an intimate portrait of the band, focusing on their performance in a simple yet striking way.&nbsp;The energy is electric, as to be expected, and the gritty black and white aesthetic gives the whole thing a grungy, minacious feel.&nbsp;

Masked country singer Orville Peck shines the spotlight on members of the drag community in Austin Peters' video for Queen of the Rodeo.&nbsp;Opening on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, we are introduced to Jem, a First Nations community member and drag queen about whom the song was written. Looking to hitchike to the rodeo, Jem catches the attention of a middle-aged man heading in the same direction.&nbsp;Juxtaposing rugged Americana with drag culture, the video explores the hidden desires of the characters at the event, whilst highlighting Jem's unlikely journey from trepidatious&nbsp;entrant to earning the&nbsp;Queen of the Rodeo title.&nbsp;Peck's enigmatic performance and presence in the video acts as a middle ground to the contrasting themes. As a gay man himself who pays homage to both cowboys and drag, he has a unique experience and worldview that brings a level of authenticity to the visual.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Bill Kirstein balances the saturated, colourful aesthetic with a healthy dose of rustic nostalgia, and even when the concepts delves into Lynchian territory in a brilliant scene at the bar, Kirstein ensures it fits in with the overall look and feel.&nbsp;

James Marcus Haney's video for Mumford &amp; Sons is a deeply&nbsp;romantic portrait of two dancers, a character study and riveting dance performance disguised as a home movie.A young couple (Yeman Brown and Stephanie Crousillat) dance and embrace in the dappled light of a New York loft. They take turns filming each other performing on a old-fashioned camcorder, giving us an intimate glimpse at their relationship - intercut with shots of a daytrip to view the Manhattan skyline.&nbsp;Through the lens, we see them as they see each other.The video evolved from a chance encounter between the band's Winston Marshall and Yeman Brown at a Manhattan dance studio. Despite being a self-described newcomer to dance, the Mumford banjoist was moved to tears watching Brown perform.&nbsp;He was cast as the male lead and Kristin Sudeikis, the studio founder, enlisted as the choreographer of the piece.Haney, a longtime collaborator with the band, introduced the heightened level of intimacy between Brown and Crousillat with the idea of shooting the video on Hi-8, a tape format popular in the '90s. Once the&nbsp;go-to format for scuzzy skate videos, here the format is soft and impressionistic, like a distant, fading memory.
