Jamie Gyngell has won this year's Homespun Yarns short film competition with&nbsp;his film 4x6, after a screening night at the Ministry of Sound in London last Thursday (November 21).Gyngell - pictured above, with&nbsp;writer Octavia Welby (left), and producer Archie Johnston Stewart&nbsp;(centre) - was one of three finalists whose films were shown on the night, together with&nbsp;Claire Norowzian &amp; Catherine Humble&nbsp;(Take Me) and&nbsp;Amelia Dimoldenberg&nbsp;(Simon Is A Pr*ck). The winner was announced&nbsp;after a combined audience and judges vote.4x6 is the story of graphic artist, Tessa, who finds a mysterious photo of an unknown couple amongst her latest batch of prints, her curiosity unleashes a sinister force beyond her control. It is the first horror film Yarns have ever commissioned and earned some very favourable comments from the judges.Tom Tagholm, director at Park Pictures, said of Jamie’s entry: “Wow this is one of the best shorts I’ve ever seen. Mesmeric and uncomfortable and perfectly controlled – everything in its right place. From performances to framing to score – really great work. You feel like as soon as it ends you want to go right back and re watch, which is a neat trick to pull off.”And Rising’s creative partner&nbsp;Anna Arnell also had some encouraging words, “this story had me hooked from the very beginning. The unnerving music, mixed with the creepy guy snooping on the hero’s photos - you knew something was coming. I also loved it was shot on film - the cinematic look and feel really chimed with the theme of the story. The VFX of the photo coming to life was fantastic and completely unexpected”.Keith McCarthy of Stink Films mentored Jamie throughout the process and everyone involved in the film worked hard to make it in just four months. Yarns' longstanding supporters, Kodak and Panavision provided film stock and camera equipment, Big Buoy supplied the VFX, Archie Johnston Stewart produced and Homespun’s Charlie Von Rotburg edited the film.Jamie Gyngell is delighted by his win. “Yarns is such an amazing opportunity - everyone should enter! I got so much support and enthusiasm throughout the process from everyone involved - they really went above and beyond!”The three films commissioned this year explored the brief ‘1000 Words’ and invited entrants to work up a story idea based on a single image that had to be central to their concept. The image was provided to Homespun Yarns by photographer Josh Kern through Kodak.An entirely not-for-profit initiative, Homespun Yarns consistently identifies the next wave of directing talent and provides finalists with a unique platform to turn their treatments into fully formed short films with the support of the industry’s foremost talent. Jamie Gyngell wins Homespun Yarns 2019 with '4x6'

"I'm terribly sorry, I appear to have lost an eye!" A man tries to ignore his crumbling body in Jamie Gyngell shlocky narrative video for Beach Baby.The man starts to fall apart - literally. He can’t even order breakfast without disgracing himself,&nbsp;vomiting some very nasty looking black goop down his front. Haunted by a band of silk-shirted ghouls, he tries to find a way back to normal life. But after losing his teeth in the sink and finding one in the bathtub, he realises he is damned to life in a silk-shirt of his own, in the&nbsp;purgatorial “limbo lounge”.There is something about rock and roll and Video Nasties. <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/06/11/misty-miller-taxi-cab-aoise-tutty/26904">Misty Miller</a>, <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/08/21/jamie-t-zombie-james-slater/28642">Jamie T</a>, <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/09/14/king-krule-dum-surfer-brother-willis/49636">King Krule</a>&nbsp;and <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2015/08/21/wolf-alice-youre-germ-chris-grieder/36271">Wolf Alice</a>&nbsp;have all had an '80s horror moment. But&nbsp;Gyngell's visual, shot entirely on&nbsp;Super 8mm, looks like it really could be part of the pulpy&nbsp;genre it pays tribute to. A distant cousin of The Evil Dead, or its madder cousins - with titles like Nudisty Colony of the Dead and&nbsp;A Polish Vampire in Burbank.
