Producer Rosie Brear makes a notable directing debut for Irish singer-songwriter Orla Gartland, dramatizing the artist's party-fatigue from the perspective of her reflection in the mirror.The song Pretending is about exactly that - the exhausting business of putting on a front, not being entirely yourself, when conversing with strangers. Brear focusses on the moment when Gartland is taking time out at a fancy dress party in the bathroom, looking at herself in the mirror - which becomes the portal of all the action, as other partygoers continually invade the space.It's an entertaining and compelling device to deliver the narrative arc, and the message of the song. Brear, producer of videos for Declan McKenna, Sports Team, Joesef, and others&nbsp;this year - and also this one -&nbsp;shows she is amply capable of doing the directing thing too.

From the opening shot, featuring Polly Misch lipsyncing over a sample from Brief Encounter, we follow Tom into a private cinema to run a very special film on the projector.It&#39;s a &#39;home movie&#39;&nbsp;of Margriet and Klaus Misch, Tom&#39;s German grandparents, and the footage shows them just after the end of World War II, in love during very hard times in Europe. It&#39;s fascinating, and provided the inspiration for the song as well as the video. Most importantly, Osborne places this precious footage in a context which feels right for the jazzy cool of the track.&quot;This was definitely a unique experience and process,&quot; he says. &quot;And I thoroughly enjoyed working closely with the whole family to ensure we execute their story in the most respectful way.&quot;

And from then on, whether it&#39;s&nbsp;walking, shopping, sleeping, or going to the toilet, she&#39;s&nbsp;accompanied by&nbsp;a human&nbsp;ball and chain - her ex.&nbsp;And that goes on even when she finds a brand new love...&ldquo;For the music video, we wanted to do something fun and different,&quot; says Fabich, whose track Hold On, with Josh Barry on vocals, is his debut single after crafting hits for the likes of&nbsp;Lyfe Jennings and&nbsp;Trina.&nbsp;&quot;When we made the record, I didn&rsquo;t want it to feel like a classic love song and that&rsquo;s why I didn&rsquo;t want to make a classic love song video. My team and I decided to contact Ollie Wolf who has done some amazing and unique videos.&rdquo;Shot around East London, Wolf delivers this comedy with superb conviction, directing excellent performances from his leads - in particular Ed Coleman as the deluded but determined ex, showing great comic timing.

These provides the backdrop for a performance where Zee starts, statue-like, on a plinth, then multiplies via motion control.

"The inspiration behind the video was pretty obvious," says Jason. "However, I really wanted to take the simple visual hook and create this phantasmic, yet realistic space, where you could see Zee living out the opposing forces in her concrete mind. The song makes me feel claustrophobic and I really wanted this 'grey matter' room where she could give a multi faceted performance — a little A.D.D., some childlike innocence, and a deep well of emotion."
