Enormous studio affairs, dripping in extravagance and stuffed with thrilling, superfluous set-pieces. You want Madonna giving a sermon on a swan gargoyle. Prince in his church bathtub. Bjork yelling from the back of a lorry. Next time you’re feeling nostalgic, spare a thought for Grant Singer - this is what he does. Think instead of <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/03/07/lorde-green-light-grant-singer/46601">Lorde stomping on top of an Uber</a>. Of the Weeknd <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2016/09/30/weeknd-ft-daft-punk-starboy-grant-singer/43885">storming through a house with a pink crucifix</a>. Or of Troye Sivan <a href="https://vimeo.com/251203610">strutting through a factory in a big silk cape</a>.This may be the second single from Smith’s upcoming project, but this video feels like a statement of intent. There is a parallel between this dance-driven video and My My My, Grant Singer’s earlier video for Troye Sivan. Sivan <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2019/apr/06/troye-sivan-youtuber-singer-actor-fashion-queer-pride-laura-snapes">spoke glowingly</a> of his experience on My My My, an opportunity for to be visibly and unapologetically queer. Sam Smith already made a foray into the ballroom scene for Promises. But in this video, he is front and centre, fresh from lessons with Parris Goebel, the choreographer behind Justin Beiber’s internet-busting video for Sorry. You’ve never seen a mainstream, male songwriter vogue quite like this.

A memorable showcase for&nbsp;Lorde&#39;s serious&nbsp;charisma, and fine example of Singer&#39;s growing mastery of the medium.

Grant Singer eschews overt sexuality in favour of angst and arguments in this collaboration between Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik, which features on the soundtrack to the film 50 Shades Darker.Shot in the St. Pancras Rennaissance hotel in London, the video starts with Zayn being mobbed by paparazzi before ducking into the hotel to thrash out an argument with Taylor which results in some mild criminal damage. Moody, atmospheric lights and passionate colour choices lead the way in this striking visual.

The Weeknd and Grant Singer collaborate again for stylish neo-noir short film &#39;M A N I A&#39;.Beginning with an incredible shot of a black panther before roaring into a supercar-laden drive through the mountains and eventually arriving at a club, this is a sprawling, grand and incredibly sinister piece of film. And after spending a little over six of its 12-minute runtime setting up this cool, brooding atmosphere, it suddenly reaches in incredibly bloody narrative peak.Steeped full of metaphorical imagery and looking fantastic, this is a neo-noir style short that doesn&#39;t have the high-octane shock factor that False Alarm&nbsp;had, but it still manages to push all the same buttons.More of an album trailer than a music video, the songs from The Weeknd&#39;s &#39;Starboy&#39; album cut in and out of the action with some excellent (blood-soaked) performance visuals.

The Weeknd kills&nbsp;his former self - smashing his previous accolades and cutting off his infamous Basquiat&nbsp;locks -&nbsp;in what must be the slickest, neon-tinged video of the year so far, directed by long-term collaborator&nbsp;Grant Singer.It&#39;s&nbsp;a bold way to go about things. But&nbsp;Starboy - the newfangled&nbsp;version of the singer - seems like the audacious&nbsp;type, showing up at his record company in a leather jacket and&nbsp;wearing a&nbsp;diamond-incrusted cross necklace, he literally suffocates his former self before wielding&nbsp;a massive&nbsp;radiant, neon-pink cross and destroying&nbsp;all past symbols of his&nbsp;success.&nbsp;Then he walks along his car collection&nbsp;in his garage and settles on a&nbsp;McLaren,&nbsp;stealing off into the night with a panther by his side. As you do. I guess there&#39;s no room for two&nbsp;Abęls in this town.&nbsp;

Grant Singer&#39;s video for Phantogram&#39;s You Don&#39;t Get Me High Anymore&nbsp;is a dark, passionate desert-set&nbsp;affair. With visceral close-ups of gel moulds being sliced, and the destruction of buildings from the inside out, it&#39;s anything but gentle. Combine that imagery with the impending doom of a gigantic wave,&nbsp;motorbike stunts, BDSM and a rich, saturated colourscape of fierce reds and blues, and you&#39;ve got something in front of you that becomes difficult to define.The title is so incendiary in itself, and Grant Singer has undoubtedly taken his cue from that. And its a territory that he&#39;s familiar with - the thrillseekers&nbsp;who break the mould, smash the monotony, but pay some kind of price in the process.&nbsp;It all feels uncomfortable, self destructive and confusingly sexy.
