Director duo Grandmas present a bold, surreal vision for Hurts, with a striking juxtaposition&nbsp;of human emotion&nbsp;and exotic birdlife.&nbsp;Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft&nbsp;is a wild, overwrought presence, striding purposefully through a&nbsp;city at night, thrown into shapes and distortions by the track. The city is mostly empty, apart from the sporadic appearance of spectacular ornothology: flamingo, vulture, and stork.The birds represent the themes of toxic love and regrowth described in the passionate track Somebody: the carrion-pecking vulture embodies the idea of parasitic love; the flamingo, represents the colourful and limitless vision of what could be on the horizon; and the stork, displays the&nbsp;opportunity for a new beginning.At some points&nbsp;Hutchcraft seems to be taking on the mannerisms of the birds, in a stand-out, intense performance, as he powers through the night. And the&nbsp;cinematic feel of the piece is elevated by striking cinematography - care of DoP Nick Morris&nbsp;- and off-kilter choreography, perfectly encapsulating the painful transition from a toxic past to an optimistic future.

A nighttime accident sets off an unusual chain of events in&nbsp;Grandmas' vision for Larkins' Are We Having Any Fun Yet?&nbsp;Having been taken out by a car, frontman Josh Noble stumbles through a maze of underpasses, streets and traffic, crossing paths with a series of enigmatic strangers&nbsp;who look just as out of place as he does.&nbsp;Each character has an unusually calm demeanour&nbsp;and a fascination with Noble, which questions&nbsp;whether this is just a really unlucky night, or a visualisation of him crossing the life/death boundary following the accident.&nbsp;Beautifully shot by DoP Harry Wheeler, the heavy grain and vibrant colour palette creates a strangely hyperrealist aesthetic, punctuated by moments of surrealism and introspection.&nbsp;

Pity the poor GRANDMAS. The directing and writing duo are not only in lockdown, they're locked down... up north!As we trundle through Week Whatever-It-Is of quarantine, things appear to be getting quite tense in the GRANDMAS household. The only thing keeping them going&nbsp;is a sideline in second-hand fridges. That and their pigeon-fancying...&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;What were you working on before the lockdown? We’d just booked a promo before we went into lockdown. The concept was a good 'un as well. Hopefully everyone will still be motivated to get it done when the world stops ending.<blockquote>Usually we like to start the day with a good cry.</blockquote>What are you working on now? We do narrative alongside our promo work, so we’ve been pretty submerged in our writing. Nothing. Literally nothing has happened. Every day is the same. It’s rubbish.What's the favourite part of your daily routine? Usually we like to start the day with a good cry. Then we’ll pay each other compliments until our self esteem is high enough that we can start writing again.Are things getting harder/better/staying the same? Harder. But we’re hoping if everything goes to shit and devolves into civil unrest then we might leverage control of a local borough - maybe Burnley, or somewhere shit like that. We’ve both realised that knocking your testicles back and forth a bit with a ball pein hammer is a great way to pass the time. Sounds 'weird'&nbsp;now but once the economy collapses we’ll see who’s so ‘weird and disgusting, and now harbouring several diseases and parasites’’ won’t we MICHAEL, and then you’ll be the one who’s a starving idiot... thinking your so flash with your Fiat Punto and your brother’s AirMax...Anyway, they’re delicious once you’ve boiled all the muck off them. Plus there’s loads of them and they’re free. It’s fully not disgusting too :)Best thing you’ve watched, or heard, while on lockdown, and why? And the worst...? We watched a video where a dog sings an opera song that was quite captivating. Also would highly recommend Black Cat White Cat (you’ve probably seen it), the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsRpS6XGiOs" target="_blank">Slint documentary ‘Breadcrumb Trail’</a> and the seminal picture of 1997, Flubber.[vidtoken data:0]How's your Work/Life balance at the moment? At first we had a pretty good rhythm going, but now we’re slowly running out of writing projects. Director duo Grandmas head to Turkey&nbsp;for Meduza’s smash Lose Control.Shot in and around the hundreds of abandoned identical chateaux in Burja Al Babas, the video captures the track’s energy in a truly unique location. The 527 chateaux, originally built on a rural site near the town of Murdurnu, have been abandoned since 2014, and have become something of a legend with urban explorers.Inside the dystopian paradise, a group of people go about day to day life&nbsp;as individuals, before coming together as one to party as the sun sets. High energy and beautifully shot, with great performances and a breathtaking location.&nbsp;

Directing duo Grandmas have just signed to Black Dog FIlms, and also directed their second&nbsp;video for Pearl City,&nbsp;as two haplessly wimpy teens become our window into the world of female bodybuilding.This follow-up to their excellent video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/04/03/pearl-city-down-tree-grandmas/58063" target="_blank">Down By The Tree</a>, featuring the charismatic Tom Heyes, features two&nbsp;more&nbsp;memorable characters, played by Calum Scott and Joe Ross. They&nbsp;visit a seaside resort and find themselves at a Ms Universe-style show, and suitably amazed and agog.It's another fine example of Grandmas' brand of genre-bending filmmaking,&nbsp;documentary and comedy slammed together to great effect. Their short film&nbsp;Norteños&nbsp;– a black comedy set in the Northwest of England - is currently on the BAFTA/Oscar film festival circuit.

The Mancunian writing/directing team GRANDMAS&#39;&nbsp;video for&nbsp;Manchester two-piece Pearl City features&nbsp;a stunning central performance, by performance artist/choreographer (and&nbsp;Chorley native)&nbsp;Tom Heyes.Heyes&#39; portrayal of a young man struggling with his demons begins with his fearsome appearance, but becomes something more interesting than a exhibition of macho aggression.&nbsp;As he moves fluidly around a normal working men&#39;s club, it&#39;s a&nbsp;bizarre but compelling spectacle - and an allegory for a troubled mind in crisis.

Manchester-based directing team Grandmas have made a video for Exploded View&#39;s song Orlando, that was completed shortly before the terrible events in Orlando, FL&nbsp;in the early hours of June 12th.So obviously there is no direct connection between the two.
