Ninian Doff is back with his first music video since 2016, and it&#39;s a reunion with The Chemical Brothers to tell a wonderful shaggy dog&#39;s story, all about a super-talented pooch, trained to take on man&#39;s biggest challenges.Rescued from the streets by a young female scientist (Tegen Short), our canine hero/heroine is fast-tracked into a secret programme that leads&nbsp;to the cockpit of a F1 car speeding around a test circuit - and then behind the controls of a space rocket.It&#39;s classic Doff - outlandish, charming, beautifully executed, and a very apt visual to The Chems&#39; track We&#39;ve Got To Try, the latest release from their forthcoming album, No Geography.It&#39;s also the second time Doff has collaborated with the iconic dance outfit, following <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2015/08/18/chemical-brothers-%E2%80%98sometimes-i-feel-so-deserted%E2%80%99-ninian-doff/36165" target="_blank">Sometimes I Feel Deserted</a>. And just a huge pleasure to have Ninian Doff - whos first feature Boyz In The Wood (starring Eddie Izzard)&nbsp;will be released later this year - back in the world of music videos, at least for a while.

Ringan Ledwidge makes a very rare&nbsp;return to directing music videos with an absolute riveter for Massive Attack&#39;s Voodoo In My Blood featuring Young Fathers (from the new EP Ritual Spirit), with&nbsp;top British actress&nbsp;Rosamund Pike in an&nbsp;encounter in a deserted London underpass&nbsp;with a very&nbsp;menacing floating&nbsp;orb.Ledwidge draws on influences from&nbsp;classic &#39;80s horror&nbsp;(in particular the late Andrzej Żuławski&#39;s&nbsp;Possession, and Phantasm 2) to create something with a less obviously creepy&nbsp;aesthetic. But the way that the sphere controls an increasingly Pike is a nailbiting study in menacing suspense, as well as a metaphor on human dependence on technology.And although less obvious that the recent Chemical Brothers video directed by Dom &amp; Nic, this is also the result of some brilliant VFX work, in this case executed by the team at Electric Theatre Collective.

Massive Attack, Young Fathers - Voodoo In My Blood

Yousef Eldin has directed this lovely documentary-style video, capturing the spirit of the Notting Hill Carnival for Rudimental&#39;s reggae-infused anthem We The Generation, the title track from their second album.&nbsp;It captures the band, with Mahalia on vocals, jamming in a&nbsp;Portobello Road cornershop, intercut with portraits of local residents preparing for the big weekend in 2015.&nbsp;The director&nbsp;reveals&nbsp;that his motivation&nbsp;was to put the redress the balance about perceptions of Carnival.&nbsp;&quot;This film was all about reclaiming the Notting Hill Carnival,&quot; he says.&nbsp;&quot;It&#39;s one of the world&rsquo;s most famous events but suffers a real stigma in the UK.&nbsp;The film just touches on the real life, shooting real characters around the carnival of inter-generational stories; people coming together in the genuine spirit of community and harnessing its power - a message that is at the heart of the band&rsquo;s music and their album.&quot;Yousef&nbsp;adds that the man who appears at the end of the video, who visited the set when he shot the band&#39;s performance, is Leslie Palmer, the founder of the Notting Hill Carnival as we now know it. &quot;[Leslie] was the carnival director in 1973 who expanded the route and brought over the sound systems,&quot; he explains. &quot;He&#39;s also a total legend - and he would be an OBE if he came from any other section of the arts in the UK.&quot; &nbsp;

In quite a change of direction for a video for folk outfit The Staves, Jack Whiteley has directed this very sharp comedy for Black &amp; White, in which an '80s Australian evening news show goes into meltdown off-camera when the lady newsreader (played by Nell Mooney) discovers, as the programme starts, that her suave co-host is cheating on her with the weathergirl.Building the tension&nbsp;between what the viewers are seeing on TV, and what's really going on in the studio - with the Stave girls appearing as onlooking crew - it's a delicious car-crash moment, beautifully&nbsp;executed&nbsp;by the crew in front of the camera, and the one behind it.

Yousef Elden&#39;s one-shot video for Jake Hart&#39;s That Touch follows the fluid movement of a dancer through the busy streets of an American city at night, placing a deft hand on strangers as he goes on his way - without any offence taken.The unruffled reaction to this&nbsp;laying of hands projects a positive impression of humanity - and the effect is soothing and uplifting. And that certainly goes with the music.
