But Jason Koenig, who has directed some of Ed Sheeran's most-watched videos including the multi-billion viewed Shape Of You, has returned to direct one of the biggest British videos of the year.And it's for a couple of good causes.&nbsp;Profits from this year’s Christmas period will go to the Ed Sheeran <a href="https://www.essmf.com" target="_blank">Suffolk Music Foundation</a>, and the <a href="https://www.eltonjohnaidsfoundation.org" target="_blank">Elton John AIDS Foundation</a>.<div>&nbsp;</div>

Avesta Keshtmand directs a transcendent promo for&nbsp;Emma-Jean Thackray.Inspired by the themes and aesthetics of sci-fi, psychedelia&nbsp;and B-movies, Thackray and Keshtmand tell the story of an outsider at a dinner party, full of mass-produced foods and judgemental side-glances. Lost in her own world, Emma-Jean is then transported to somewhere more natural, flowery and free.Oozing a sense of carefree nostalgia, the video is mesmerising to look at, and celebrates the maximalist art and aesthetics of the time period it pays homage to.&nbsp;Avesta Keshtmand is a British-Afghan filmmaker living and working in London.&nbsp;Last year, Keshtmand was one of five unsigned British directors to win a place on Three Minutes,&nbsp;Crack Magazine’s incubator scheme funding five music videos by rising talents. The scheme is produced in association with our production company Ground Work and made possible by Burberry, Shure and BFI NETWORK.

Steve Stamp plays a lonely guy compelled to rebel against authority - in the form of a bumptiously self-important security guard - in Duncan Loudon's delightfully absurd accompaniment to Signal From The Noise, the first release from Canadian jazzers Bad Bad Not Good's new album.Over the track's psychedelia-influenced nine-minute duration, Stamp finds imaginative ways to rile his small-minded arch-nemesis - played by Michael Armstrong -&nbsp;in a Docklands-style open space&nbsp;where definition of private and public is notably blurred.&nbsp;His piece de resistance is the&nbsp;accurate puppet version of the guard to the space, provoking a predictably furious&nbsp;reaction.[imgtoken data:1]Shot on 16mm, with a natural grade of Oliver Ford's cinematography by Connor Coolbear at ETC, Loudon has applied a&nbsp;very contemporary look to a film that's really&nbsp;in the ballpark&nbsp;of classic silent comedy.Steve Stamp channels something of both Chaplin and Jacques Tati in his performance as the deadpan rebel railing against small-minded officialdom. Bjorn Franklin and Johnny Marchetta direct an intimate portrait of a relationship,&nbsp;in their video for Nick Wilson's Yours To Take.&nbsp;The couple - played by Chuku Modu and Alina Allison - are quite obviously enamoured with each other, spending every day dancing and drinking without a care in the world. But when two men come knocking at the door, it spells the end of their relationship.&nbsp;The video allows some questions to linger, providing viewers&nbsp;with an opportunity&nbsp;to draw their own conclusions. By presenting the more dramatic scenes without any kind of audio track, the directors create an abstract narrative which communicates the emotion and context in a refreshing manner.&nbsp;

Having collaborated with Headie One and Fred again.. on her latest release, FKA twigs has collaborated&nbsp;with director Emmanuel Adjei on the magisterial video for Don't Judge Me - a metaphorical exploration of&nbsp;the experience of being Black and British today.This is&nbsp;a double whammy of two distinct sequences that have their own riveting quality, and then weave together towards the greater message. Like most things created by twigs and Adjei - directors who are working together for the first time -&nbsp;they gradually create&nbsp;an indelible&nbsp;impression.[imgtoken data:1]On the one hand, there is twigs herself, sitting in a chair&nbsp;a grand room in a grand English house. But can she escape what reveals itself to be a gilded cage. Before she can get through the door of the room, unseen forces drag her back to the chair. When she negotiates the door, she only gets so far before flying back to her first position once again. It's a continual struggle, which increasingly calls upon angular choreography as well as wirework.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;And then in a mysterious counter-scenario to twigs's struggles, we are taken into another scene, the details of strange and shocking&nbsp;sculpture, and the people surrounding it. The artwork is Kara Walker's fountain sculpture Fons Americanus, a&nbsp;satirical take on a classic Victorian mode of art, cast in concrete - which has exhibited at the Tate Modern in London. The cast around the sculpture are eminent Black Britons - listed below - who have shared a particular struggle, shaped by&nbsp;cultural, systemic and structural biases,&nbsp;to be who they have become.[imgtoken data:2]"From someone’s appearance, we are unable to judge whether a person discriminates over colour, sex, religion, or gender," says Emmanuel Adjei, talking about the theme of The Invisible Oppressor, which has informed the video for Don't Judge Me.&nbsp;"The oppressors within the people surrounding us, most often remain invisible until their abuse against others is revealed. This is one of the reasons why, for generations, discrimination is so hard to fight. Who must the victim fight against if it can’t identify the perpetrator?[imgtoken data:3]"In this audio-visual document we get to witness artists FKA Twigs and Headie One, amongst other Black British influentials, fighting against invisible forces of judgement and oppression. Having the enormous Victorian-inspired fountain 'Fons Americanus'&nbsp;by visual artist Kara Walker - depicting the historical, sorrowful story of slavery and colonization - as our setting, and particularly as the spirit of the film, this important monument creates another layer of depth and meaning to an invisible yet shared history."

Nathan James Tettey channels a powerful grime superhero concept in his video for Ghetts' team-up with Stormzy on Skengman - with a little help from&nbsp;RUFFMERCY.Tettey weaves the charismatic performance of the two artists - with Ghetts in his Ghetto persona - into a narrative of stylised violence and retribution, delivered in a stark monochromatic vision akin to the darkest of superhero action movies, or Frank Miller's Sin City series.Cameo appearances by D Double E, Mist, Shaybo, and martial artist Michael 'Venom'&nbsp;Page also contribute to the idea of an alternative&nbsp;league of superheroes emerging on dangerous streets to protect the city - and this is sealed by a wonderful edit by Ollie Paxton, and work by the VFX team at Untold Studios.&nbsp;The final graphic flourish by the inimitable Russ Murphy aka RUFFMERCY completes the job. Having won an UKMVA for the video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/07/15/ghetts-ft-jaykae-moonchild-sannelly-mozambique-ruffmercy/66568" target="_blank">Ghetts' Mozambique</a>, his contribution on the third video for the rapper's highly anticipated new album Conflict Of Interest adds an understated element of comicbook-style fantasy&nbsp;to what is an already very strong piece. Sets the bar high on marquee grime videos for the coming year.
