The Safdie Brothers meet&nbsp;Blade in Milo Blake's surreal, visceral video&nbsp;for Biig Piig's Fun.&nbsp;This intense horror-drama begins at full-throttle with Biig Piig playing one half of an outlaw couple, who are deep in&nbsp;an argument after a robbery gone wrong. Then a dark energy engulfs the couple, transforming them into vampiric alter-egos of themselves.With menacing new auras, chaos then ensues - with a lone medical worker carrying blood supplies as the pair's hapless&nbsp;victim.&nbsp;In terms of the nature of the narrative this is&nbsp;quite the metamorphosis for Biig Piig, who steals the show in vampire villain mode.&nbsp;Meanwhile, the surreal aesthetic and horror concept has the wider impact of visualising the idea of toxic love, and how the darker side of our personalities&nbsp;can run riot in the heat of an argument.It's another&nbsp;intriguing step forward for Milo Blake - this time into a&nbsp;tangibly creepy netherworld&nbsp;- with the help of excellent cinematography by&nbsp;Deon Van Zyl, and a kinetically breathless edit by&nbsp;Lainy Black.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul Ward directs a riveting film for surf brand Mami Wata.&nbsp;The video for Luck Is Alive tells the story of an African surfer who is a believer in Animism, a sensibility prevalent among surfers throughout Africa. Animism is based on the idea that everything is sentient: that inanimate objects, plants, animals or even entities such as the ocean have a spirit or a soul, often in the sense of having ‘personhood’.The cinematic film is a cerebral, often intense experience, and blends documentary and promo aesthetics. The concept is driven forward&nbsp;by a compelling voiceover and breathtaking sound design, which brings the enigmatic narrative to life.&nbsp;Demonstrating an animistic sensibility through the concept of luck, the line, ‘Luck is Alive’, encapsulates this way of relating to the world: a sense of the aliveness of chance, and by believing in luck and that luck is alive, luck can lead you to be lucky. It is through his belief in luck that our protagonists is lead to the water, and where main character&nbsp;Damme Samb finds ultimate freedom.

Samuel Douek directs a glossy promo for German artist Tashan.&nbsp;Following the cinematic visual for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/02/28/tashan-oprah-samuel-douek/75174">Oprah</a>&nbsp;back in February, the video for Yoga boasts slick visual effects, luxurious styling and a captivating performance, all in just over two minutes of screen time.&nbsp;Celebrating feminine energy and themes of self-empowerment, the video is a confident and assured presentation, and the product placement of the Womanizer stimulator elevates these vibes - and indeed draws parallels with Douek's <a href="https://www.instagram.com/howlworldwide/">own sex-positive brand</a>, which he runs alongside his directing work.&nbsp;

Emmanuelle Soffé directs Poppy Ajudha's Playgod, a powerful pro-choice statement prompted by the recent Alabama abortion bill and other pressures on women’s freedom across the globeThe song questions the right of men to lay claim to women’s bodies, and Soffé's video&nbsp;grounds Ajudha’s anger in a series of low-lit scenes, with a chorus of women exploding into movement in time with the song’s ferocious chorus, making a physical expression of women’s grief and rage.Elsewhere, scenes depicting Ajudha in Virgin Mary-esque stylings show the grief that even Mary herself feels for Christian ideologies being warped in the name of ‘God’, while a glitter-laden performance from the singer depicts the sanctity of the female body.[imgtoken data:1]"When I first heard this track, with just a few hours to write a script, it struck me that the most powerful way to approach a video concept for a song like this was through simple and raw expression of emotion," says Soffé. The horror and the grief we feel on behalf of our sisters (and trans/non-binary siblings) on the other side of the planet. The anger, the rage, the frustration, the helplessness. And the way that these powerful emotions unite us, bind us together, make us stronger and ever more determined for change."At its essence, the concept for this video is about Releasing. Releasing our and the collective trauma; a method of communicating not (just) with words, but with the heart."

Samuel Douek directs a cinematic performance promo&nbsp;for Tashan.&nbsp;In the video for Oprah, Tashan faces off ‘The Bad Guy’ in an all-or-nothing, high-stakes astrological poker game. She puts her fate in the hands of the deity Aquarius when betting it all, securing her inevitable victory."It was an amazing experience getting to direct this music video," says&nbsp;Douek. "The song is about being a bad-ass bitch - inspired by the eponymous TV personality - and that natural stardom is something the artist emanates. The aesthetic for the film was inspired by Tashan’s Swiss and Indian heritage and transports us to a surreal future where amber skies tower over cyber cities."The rich colour palettes and inspired art direction help bring the concept to life, and the setups are&nbsp; seamlessly&nbsp;integrated through clever visual effects work.&nbsp;"The VFX were created by the amazing Felix Geen to move between the reality of the poker game and the metaphorical fantasy of intergalactic travel," continues Douek.&nbsp;"We managed to pull off a really ambitious shoot with an incredibly talented crew. Brock Neal Roberts directs a chilling black comedy about urban youth in his latest collaboration with&nbsp;Jeshi.The video for Generation, the rapper's pin-sharp critique of a troubled society,&nbsp;explores the complex issues facing the youth of today - from drugs to violence&nbsp;to&nbsp;an unhealthy reliance on digital technology -&nbsp;cleverly encapsulated in a fly-on-the-wall aesthetic.&nbsp;From a vantage point high above the ground, the camera settles on a series of&nbsp;unfolding narratives, before quickly panning away and seeking out the next moment, involving one or more early-teen boy engaged in activities more usually associated with young men, or to Jeshi himself as on-the-spot commentator.[imgtoken data:1]The concept is lived out by a group of young boys, who light cigarettes for strangers, throw&nbsp;rocks at takeaway food delivery riders&nbsp;and ignore parents whilst engrossed in their phones.The cyclical nature of the concept is cleverly rounded off in the end scene, where the boys begin to throw rocks at a random neighbour's house, and the perspective switches from third person to first person, proving that we aren't only witnesses to the problems facing society, but very much a part of the tapestry.&nbsp;

Moonga K is held in a moment to explore the outer limits of his own fantasies, whilst in the midst of a crazy baccanal, in Paul Ward's extraordinary vision for the&nbsp;Zambian-born, Botswana-raised, Johannesburg-based artist.The South African director, making one of his occasional forays from commercials into music videos, has built a dreamlike work on an epic scale, with nods to some classic sci-fi. The VFX work is remarkable and the disorientating nature of the narrative - such as thiere is one - allows the major set-pieces to gather force over the course of the song, Who's It Gonna Be?&nbsp;A tour de force, if ever there was one.
