Alex Orma presents a brilliant spin on the&nbsp;zombie apocalypse for Belgian band La Jungle.David Cronenberg meets Thriller - and inevitably plays upon the reality of the pandemic - when the population of Brussels begin displaying symptoms of 'dancing plague'. It starts with a bad cough and then it's all about&nbsp;the involuntary jerks and spasms, as the rhythms of La Jungle's Du Sang Du Singe take hold.[imgtoken data:1]The real reference is the Black Death in the&nbsp;16th century, where the 'dancing plague' actually happened: a mystery virus&nbsp;caused&nbsp;people to dance non-stop until they eventually died from a stroke or exhaustion.The clip is a collaboration with choreographer Brandon Lagaert (performer in the Peeping Tom company) as well as with some of the most talented young dancers of the current Belgian scene.[imgtoken data:2]Orma, Lagaert, cast and crew do a superb&nbsp;job here, giving his horror-comedy the scale of a low budget feature, with the a sizeable dollop of Low Country black humour.&nbsp;Looks like it would be fun being a&nbsp;Rock Zombie...

He&#39;s mainly occupied making ads, but&nbsp;Joe Vanhoutteghem&#39;s ventures into music video have resulted in jawdropping work for The Hickey Underworld and <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2013/06/11/balthazar-sinking-ship-joe-vanhoutteghem" target="_blank">Balthazar</a>.&nbsp;Now for Editors&#39;&nbsp;Sugar, the Belgian director has moved into new territory. The alienated characters of his previous videos are&nbsp;replaced by&nbsp;band performance.But that&nbsp;unmistakeably unsettling&nbsp;quality of his videos &ndash;&nbsp;of reality being twisted into something else &ndash; certainly&nbsp;remains. From the moment the band start playing,&nbsp;something strange&nbsp;is going on. Their shabby&nbsp;rehearsal room keeps changing: walls collapse, slide away, then reappear, then close in. Other people, unseen by the band, fly sideways through the room, slide along floors, hang upwards...So we spoke to Joe, to ask him about the video...Your music video projects are fairly rare. How did your Editors video come about? How did you describe the idea for the video to them?It was hard to describe, it was even hard to explain to&nbsp;myself. The thing was that they wanted to have a&nbsp;performing video.&nbsp;I always refused them in the past. So it was a challenge. I had&nbsp;to&nbsp;come up with a performing idea &nbsp;but I still wanted&nbsp;some&nbsp;kind&nbsp;of storyline. I thought it was maybe best&nbsp;to do something visually&nbsp;interesting.&nbsp;So I&nbsp;proposed a&nbsp;documentary feel on the band in the&nbsp;rehearsal&nbsp;room and after the transformation we kept the sound realistic, hearing the music muffled in the&nbsp;presumed&nbsp;rooms next door to create some strange effect. Although I was aware that some of the Youtube fans weren&#39;t&nbsp;going&nbsp;to be happy.&nbsp;Is there something you&rsquo;re looking for in a track or a band that makes you want to work with them?Not really. I don&#39;t think so much in wanting to shoot for a particular band. I just like to tell stories&nbsp;apart from the music but in the spirit of that music. For me a music video is always at it&#39;s best when the music feels kind of a&nbsp;soundtrack.&nbsp;That&#39;s why performing video&#39;s are so hard. Sometimes I have ideas apart from a track. Later that track starts&nbsp;lingering&nbsp;in your head and the vibe of the band and the guys in it. Slowly&nbsp;it comes all together.&nbsp;The video is full of ingenious FX tricks and ideas - and it&rsquo;s not easy to figure out how they&rsquo;ve been achieved. Is this an existing set or location of collapsing and sliding walls, or did you create the room yourself? And how did you control the movement of the walls and ceilings?I shot a similar&nbsp;project&nbsp;before with the same art director.&nbsp;It was all shot in camera. We&nbsp;shot&nbsp;this in the art director&#39;s warehouse. There was a small&nbsp;shabby&nbsp;place not so far that we used as the&nbsp;existing&nbsp;rehearsal&nbsp;room. Then we re-build all the walls, the floor and&nbsp;ceiling in the warehouse. we had a forklift for the ceiling but the movements of the walls were all just controlled by&nbsp;manpower out of frame.&nbsp;And how did you get your cast to slide along floors, hang upwards, etc?We casted some&nbsp;young&nbsp;free runners who were up for it. We also had a professional stunt coordinator and his team. They rigged the&nbsp;runners for a couple of shots and also Justin, the&nbsp;guitar player.&nbsp;Have these tricks been stored in the Vanhoutteghem locker for a while, or did you develop them especially for the video?There&#39;s a lot of useless stuff stored in a very&nbsp;small&nbsp;locker :-) There were some basic idea&#39;s but then you start&nbsp;talking, and adding and&nbsp;skipping&nbsp;things&nbsp;together&nbsp;with everyone involved.&nbsp;Your previous videos for Hickey Underworld and Balthazar have been very uncompromising. Were you intent on adopting a lighter tone for this one?It&#39;s often lonely in a dark room. I&#39;m happy I succeeded to deliver a bit of a lighter tone for once. This was different from the others because I had the performing part to deal with. But it was equally fun.&nbsp;

Filip Sterckx&rsquo;s brilliant 3D projection-mapping video for Belgian band Willow&rsquo;s Sweater &ndash; an action-adventure created with three projectors and a white-walled studio &ndash; has been scooping up awards, screenings at festivals (and BUG) and been described as &ldquo;one of the coolest music videos ever&rdquo; by New York Magazine. And now Filip is back together with Willow for the new single Remedy, and have come up with another gem of ingenuity that expands on the projection-mapping idea.This time Filip visualises the intensity of an everyday romantic relationship through projections on singer Pieter-Jan Van Den Troost, and also on sculptures, leading to an intriguing set of images that act as transitions between scenes.

As aficianados of his videos for The Hickey Underworld will attest, Joe Vanhoutteghem&#39;s work is unique -&nbsp;a bleak, disturbing, violent, grubby, weirdly fathomless vision of the world. He brings the true irrationality of a nightmare to those videos to create a very striking horror &ndash; or very strange comedy. &nbsp;Now he&#39;s turned his attention to another Belgian band, Balthazar, and created a new nightmare for their song Sinking Ship - once again shot in a distinctively dingy half-light by his DoP Nicolas Karakatsanis, with the signature shabby art direction by Tanker.&nbsp;It begins with a man belting himself around the head with a hammer, and creating a permanent shadow, or stain on the wall, of which he himself his also stained. And then he goes out into the world, to be chased by people running in herds. But eventually finds a girl, who&#39;s got a few problems of her own...&nbsp;

Jon Spencer finds the perfect person to visually interpret the raw blues-rock power of his Blues Explosion's new single Black Mold - from the brand new album Meat and Bone. It's Toon Aerts, of course.
It's about two sleazy guys, who come across a flying saucer in the woods - from which one of them contracts a very nasty, and probably terminal case of Black Mold. Carrying on the unbeatable combination of action, horror, efective FX and lashings of black (mold) comedy - its what Toon has done to great effect previously with <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2011/03/04/the-sore-losers%E2%80%99-juvenile-heart-attack-by-toon-aerts/" target="_blank">The Sore Losers</a>. Again, Evil Dead is an influence for Black Mold, but it's also a bit more Lynchian-dark too... Toon was interviewed by Jon's friend, New York-based writer Mike Edison, about the making of the video, and told him:
"We shot it in Wallonië in the southern part of Belgium. Originally we wanted to crash a flying saucer into a western town, and were thinking of doing it in Spain, where a lot of Spaghetti Westerns were shot, but we couldn't really get a crew there. That's when I came up with the idea to do it in the woods. A lot of horror films are in the woods, The Evil Dead reference was there right away, so I found this place and the owners were happy to work with us. 
"It really wasn't as cool as it looks - we had to take out all of their furniture and put in a new set. It was a lot of work. We experimented a lot with the black mold effect. Saskia Verreycken, the SFX person, has a special machine to put fur on humans. She is famous in Belgium for doing make up and effects for movies and TV -- when anyone is getting shot or bleeding, she is there! 
"The guy that gets infected is Andreas Perschewski, he's a German actor living in Brussels, and he just has this face that kind of sticks in your mind. He was just the perfect man for the job, and he suffered a lot for his art, covered in all that black silicon gel! The role of his brother is played by Igor Paszkiewicz, a dancer and musician and a good friend of mine. He also has such a remarkable appearance. The two of them were just perfect for that deep woods vibe."
