Alasdair McLellan revisits Sheffield in the early 90s for his video for the Pet Shop Boys' Loneliness - from the duo's forthcoming album Nonetheless - a coming of age story set among a group of young friends and lovers.&nbsp;It's something to behold. McLellan brings the unmistakeable tenor of his fashion photography into the space of classic British narrative drama. He&nbsp;asks the viewer to buy into a different way of absorbing a story and characters we might expect from the likes of Shane Meadows - or from an earlier era, the British new wave of the 60s - and does so with complete conviction.None of the bright blue skies for which he's renowned here, but McLellan presents all the other beauty that South Yorkshire has to offer - with the help of a team including DoP Lex Kembery,&nbsp;casting director Hannah Ward Ashby at Lane Casting, editor Alexandros Pissourios and&nbsp;colourist Jamie Noble at Studio RM.It works because at its core, it's a compelling story of a young man carving his way in the face of the societal norms of his class, culture and the times. He is a&nbsp;closeted queer boy in a straight world, engaged in a double existence. It leads him into unsettling level of deception, of an adoring girlfriend and possibly himself, but McLellan does not shy away from the excitement of his sexual encounters.As a video for this lovely new Pet Shop Boys track&nbsp;- and the legendary duo make a surprising appearance towards the end of the film - the overall effect is poignant, nostalgic and romantic. But it may draw out a whole variety of emotions from anyone watching it, and although it may not be everyone's cup of (Yorkshire) tea, that makes it a very good thing indeed.

The Smile give a private performance to the most challenging of audiences, in Paul Thomas Anderson's charming promo for Friend Of A Friend: a class of nursery school-aged children.&nbsp;It's a brave feat, giving a surprise performance to some of the most brutal critics on Earth, who have yet to develop the social skills to hide their true feelings. In this respect, Anderson's latest video for The Smile is a wonderful experiment.The band - Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood and Tom Skinnner -&nbsp;get on with the job of performing a song which may be the their finest achievement to date. They set up shop in the school hall whilst the kids file in to the benches and then spectate, giving unfiltered reactions that range from apathetic to awestruck (usually when the lightshow begins).&nbsp;It's a wonderful visual, meditating on the relationship between musicians and their audience, and builds to a poignant, engaged finale, which will warm up even the coldest of hearts. Make sure you stay to the very end...

Harvey Pearson directs an evocative promo for sister-duo Sarah Julia and their&nbsp;song Caingorms, filmed in the eponymous Scottish mountain range.&nbsp;In the video the sisters are joined by&nbsp;an enigmatic (and very hairy)&nbsp;figure who dwells unobtrusively in the area. He becomes their guide as they retrace paths on the hillsides they have walked many times before. As they explain this symbolic figure&nbsp;has deep significance for them.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;“The Cairngorms are a place our Dad used to take us hiking when we were younger," they explain.&nbsp;"It holds a memory of a version of him that we try to hold on to.”&nbsp;This sense of memory and wistfulness is visualised through tender, emotional vignettes, which blur reality and fiction with creative flair. V.I.C's Two Sides follows in that sub-genre of songs where two people, usually a man and woman,&nbsp;present difffering viewpoints (including that notable festive classic, Fairytale Of New York). Matthieu Livingston's video for the song also harks back to the past - and has&nbsp;two distinct parts.The video is framed&nbsp;as a mid-century period piece, with the&nbsp;main part is set in a deserted café, where V.I.C and his girlfriend are situated engaged in an uncomfortable - and possibly relationship-ending - exchange. But its intercut with flashbacks to an earlier and happier part of their romance, delivered in hazy home movie style Super 8mm.[imgtoken data:1]"With Two Sides,&nbsp;the goal was to create a compelling music video that not only showcased V.I.C as an artist and storyteller in the contemporary rap scene but also delved into both female and male perspectives on relationship issues," says&nbsp;Matthieu Livingston."To enhance the song's theme of enduring societal norms, we immersed the visuals in the 1950s, metaphorically representing the era's expectations and divisions which are transferred and still seen in nowadays relationships."Choosing simplicity over grandiosity, we filmed at Regency Cafe, aiming to convey the narrative through casual conversations to foster a personal connection with the audience. Particularly influenced by Paris, Texas,&nbsp;we shot the resonating scenes on Super 8mm. The rest was shot on 16mm to complete and enhance the aesthetic of the project."

Trigger explains that this is an extension of the normal service that they would provide for film-shot videos, in this case to remove the stress of data management of files on set.&nbsp;“Dailies Drop works just like our film service,” he says. “At the end of your shoot, you simply arrange a drop-off of your media to Cinelab and our team will take care of the rest.
