Charles De Meyer directs the debut music video for his musical alter-ego The Chuck,&nbsp;putting him simultaneously behind and in front of the camera for the very first time.The video was shot during a recent trip to Los Angeles, where he met a bunch of&nbsp;young talent who enthusiastically came on board to help him out with this low-budget, toy-instruments performance video.Boasting an idiosyncratic style, peppered with strange props and art-direction elements, the video is a charismatic intro to the project, and a brilliant showcase of De Meyer's talents.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;&nbsp;“I had met Cameron Thistle – who plays the drums in the video – at one of his gigs in a bar in West Hollywood," the director explains. "I was so impressed by the band he shares with his brother Devin (aptly named the Thistle Brothers) I wanted to propose my services as a director should they need a video, but instead asked him to feature in one of mine a week later. He graciously agreed; his contribution lifted the result above and beyond my expectations! That was such a cool experience."De Mayer's output of music videos over a number of years includes acclaimed clips for the likes of Shinedown, Gojira, Amon Tobin, Raveyards, invariably incorporating&nbsp;inventive VFX. - but the video for Mind Over Matter marks a tonal swerve from his previous work.[imgtoken data:2]"The video is something quite different from what I'm usually accustomed to making, my work mostly being known for atmospheric and moody narratives, which attracted more projects in the same vibe," he confirms. "This time around I wanted to make things more light-hearted, a bit absurd, funny without it being a gag-reel."The brief I gave myself was: 50% cool, 50% ridiculous. I hope it shows! I did try to stay on brand by sprinkling just enough VFX to keep people guessing."

Charles De Meyer explores the lives of Brazil’s indigenous tribes, in his latest visual for Gojira.&nbsp;The powerful video for Amazonia features a dynamic performance&nbsp;- shot by De Meyer - interwoven with footage shot by multiple filmmakers, including&nbsp;Vincent Moon, Hauxplay, Jennifer Kumiko Hayashi, and Midia Ninja.&nbsp;Presenting an unfiltered representation of the struggles and hardships the tribes are forced to endure, the video and track are a call for unity, backed up by an initiative the band have set up.&nbsp;As Charles De Meyer explains below, as part of a larger&nbsp;fundraising campaign,&nbsp;proceeds from Amazonia&nbsp;will benefit The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB), an organisation that&nbsp;advocates for the environmental and cultural rights of indigenous Amazonian tribes&nbsp;"who have suffered immensely - victims of deforestation, land loss, forced labor, violence, and harassment."

French metal gods Gojira spend a night at&nbsp;the museum with mind-bending results, in Charles De Meyer's promo for Born For One Thing.&nbsp;The video follows a security guard who chases a shapeshifter through the winding corridors of the sprawling museum, after the character takes a weird little pill.&nbsp;The hallucinatory aesthetic bleeds into the cinematography, as DoP&nbsp;Maximiliaan Dierickx focuses on rotating camera moves and abstract transitions, building an abstract maze with no way out.&nbsp;It's an explosive return for the group, who release their first album in five years in April.&nbsp;

This time around, he has paired up with the Liverpudlian indie-rockers for their track&nbsp;T-Shirt Weather. The video, a&nbsp;colourful concept performance piece, executes a simple idea remarkably well.&nbsp;Shot by Jon Iles, it&nbsp;captures the nostalgic theme of the song as the band plays on a&nbsp;giant, revolving slide-carousel as&nbsp;vintage home movies are projected onto the scene.&nbsp;Revolving&nbsp;in space,&nbsp;the band gives a frenzied, high-energy&nbsp;performance,&nbsp;in and out of&nbsp;the paths of projected light, resulting in an array of fantastic, glowing silhouettes&nbsp;and prismatic broken beams.&nbsp;In keeping with Circa Waves&#39;s&nbsp;energetic&nbsp;indie-rock beat, the video&#39;s edit (by Charles himself) is welcomely&nbsp;frenetic,&nbsp;keeping the viewer engaged till the end.&nbsp;

"The band wanted a story and look that was creepy and dark, so I focused on conveying a mood and a feeling rather than tell a "proper" story," Charles explains. "The lyrics speak of painful memories, and what stood out for me was that notion of incessant pain that slowly builds up. We tried to do something very visceral, but without resorting to gore. I honestly am not much of a horror-film fan." 
Its the first video by Charles (aka Chuck Eklectric) since his tour de force of photorealistic CGI for Amon Tobin's Esthers a couple of years back, and he will shortly be represented by Monodot's new label, Wrong. More information on that coming soon...
