Joe Wheatley directs an impressive promo for Billie Marten's just released new album Drop Cherries -&nbsp;an 18 minute live film featuring Billie and her band performing four songs from the album, brilliantly&nbsp;achieved in a single take.&nbsp;Shot in&nbsp;rural Nottinghamshire, the film has an intimate, gentle aesthetic, and makes brilliant use of the&nbsp;anachronistic house location. Dom Monks, who produced the album, was also recording engineer on the film, ensuring that the quality of the sound matches the work by Wheatley and his DoP Ben Marshall.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Caught up in the nostalgic, breezy atmosphere, Marten's performance feels wistful yet incredibly present, exploring the different moods and themes of the album.&nbsp;

A battle ensues for Wizkid's heart, in CHILD's stylish, UK-shot promo for Bad To Me.&nbsp;On the set of a contemporary TV show, we are introduced to various behind the scenes staff, including a showrunner the artist is romantically involved in.&nbsp;Between the glitzy performance setups and entertaining vignettes, we see this romance develop as several other women have their eye on him.&nbsp;It's a glamorous affair, from the slick styling through to the effervescent lighting, and the video is already racking up the views in the millions.&nbsp;

In a 20th anniversary celebration of Christina Aguilera's classic ballad Beautiful, Fiona Jane Burgess delves into what is plaguing the youth of today in a series of striking tableaux that focus on the threat of social media and 'influencer' culture on the wellbeing of the impressionable young.The video starts with a series of children blankly staring at their phones, their eyes lit up by their phone screens. Burgess brings each character’s insecurity to life as the camera pans from different perspectives. Young girls stare at themselves in the mirror, covered in cosmetic surgery incision lines, not convinced by the song’s powerful lyrics.&nbsp;But ultimately, as with Aguilera's classic song, this is ultimagely a message of hope.&nbsp;The video ends with a powerful shot of kids playing hopscotch and climbing trees. It is a reminder that should be instilled in every child; it’s okay to just be a kid.[imgtoken data:1] FIONA JANE BURGESS:“This film is a love letter to young people in 2022. It’s an acknowledgement of the fact that social media has totally transformed our relationship with our bodies, and in turn, our mental health."Young people are constantly fed images of unrealistic beauty standards, and with more images and influencers than ever circulating online, it’s virtually impossible to control what information young people consume. This in turn has created an online world which can be as positive as it is volatile. This film explores the tension between progression versus regression in terms of beauty standards and how our cultural relationship to it has evolved in the last twenty years, specifically in relation to the impact it’s having on children and young people.[imgtoken data:2]<blockquote>My hope is that this film opens up a conversation around... images and messages children are consuming.</blockquote>"Research suggests that time spent on social networking sites is associated with body image issues and disordered eating in teens. According to emergency room trends, there’s been a 50% increase in reported self-injury among teenagers since 2009."According to a paper published in the British Journal of Health Psychology, more than half of girls and one-third of boys ages 6 to 8 are unhappy with their body weight. And more than 80 percent of 10-year-olds are afraid of being “fat.” This is heartbreaking. This needs to change. A love letter, a signal for change in the way we perceive beauty. Having collaborated with Headie One and Fred again.. on her latest release, FKA twigs has collaborated&nbsp;with director Emmanuel Adjei on the magisterial video for Don't Judge Me - a metaphorical exploration of&nbsp;the experience of being Black and British today.This is&nbsp;a double whammy of two distinct sequences that have their own riveting quality, and then weave together towards the greater message. Like most things created by twigs and Adjei - directors who are working together for the first time -&nbsp;they gradually create&nbsp;an indelible&nbsp;impression.[imgtoken data:1]On the one hand, there is twigs herself, sitting in a chair&nbsp;a grand room in a grand English house. But can she escape what reveals itself to be a gilded cage. Before she can get through the door of the room, unseen forces drag her back to the chair. When she negotiates the door, she only gets so far before flying back to her first position once again. It's a continual struggle, which increasingly calls upon angular choreography as well as wirework.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;And then in a mysterious counter-scenario to twigs's struggles, we are taken into another scene, the details of strange and shocking&nbsp;sculpture, and the people surrounding it. The artwork is Kara Walker's fountain sculpture Fons Americanus, a&nbsp;satirical take on a classic Victorian mode of art, cast in concrete - which has exhibited at the Tate Modern in London. The cast around the sculpture are eminent Black Britons - listed below - who have shared a particular struggle, shaped by&nbsp;cultural, systemic and structural biases,&nbsp;to be who they have become.[imgtoken data:2]"From someone’s appearance, we are unable to judge whether a person discriminates over colour, sex, religion, or gender," says Emmanuel Adjei, talking about the theme of The Invisible Oppressor, which has informed the video for Don't Judge Me.&nbsp;"The oppressors within the people surrounding us, most often remain invisible until their abuse against others is revealed. This is one of the reasons why, for generations, discrimination is so hard to fight. Who must the victim fight against if it can’t identify the perpetrator?[imgtoken data:3]"In this audio-visual document we get to witness artists FKA Twigs and Headie One, amongst other Black British influentials, fighting against invisible forces of judgement and oppression. Having the enormous Victorian-inspired fountain 'Fons Americanus'&nbsp;by visual artist Kara Walker - depicting the historical, sorrowful story of slavery and colonization - as our setting, and particularly as the spirit of the film, this important monument creates another layer of depth and meaning to an invisible yet shared history."

Olivia Rose directs a powerful exploration of womanhood in her new video for Lola Young.&nbsp;The visual features Young alongside a&nbsp;brave and diverse collection of beautiful women laid bare, as they boldly celebrate&nbsp;the female form. Embracing the parts of themselves that society has traditionally shamed or reduced them to, the concept is a reclamation of the body and everything it means to be female.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Ula Pontikos uses coloured patterns and lights to highlight the women, creating a graphical, playful aesthetic, which contrasts perfectly with the&nbsp;intimate setups and shots. And the full nature of the shoot, and unabashed nudity by artist and other models is celebrated in a wonderfully sensitive job by editor Flaura Atkinson.Truly breathtaking, both Rose and Young have stepped outside of conventional comfort zones to highlight an important conversation around body positivity and femininity, and have done so with confidence and flair.

A regular, middle-aged couple end up mixing with with models and fashionistas on the sort of luxury holiday you only see in a Calvin Harris promo, in the latest Ed Sheeran vid.Andy McLeod gently skewers&nbsp;the emphasis on youth, beauty and luxury in music videos - a good foil for the sentiment of Ed's Beautiful People. The sensible couple try their best to enjoy the opulent lifestyle they have been randomly dropped into, slightly bemused by the boisterous, wasteful behaviour of the young people around them. But after exhausting&nbsp;stints on a yacht, a stretched limo and private jet, they decide to pack it in and get back on the omnibus for a bit of peace and quiet.The video features a handful of comped-in,&nbsp;blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos from Ed Sheeran. The self-effacing singer has always taken a backseat in his own promos, often relying on a stand-in or avatar. More recently, this decision is paying off in a series of increasingly high-concept narrative pieces.

And how to rock a wide-brimmed hat.

Jack Whiteley and Joe Wills get together to conflate the worlds of videogaming, cosplay, and classic disco, to create something really special for Little Dragon.It all starts with a teenage girl rushing into her bedroom to get&nbsp;stuck into her favourite online video game&nbsp;- which introduces us to fantastically off-the-wall real-life cosplay characters, in a country house retrreat, and the fictional Bodins Castle, where all manner . It's there that her blue garbed, pointy chinned avatar&nbsp;meets &lt;lil dragon&gt;, and plenty more intriguing characters (with the occasional 3D figure mixed in with the real).&nbsp;They connect - and then later on the castle dancefloor.With fantastic attention to layers of detail,&nbsp;Whiteley and Wills bring brilliant costume design, makeup, VFX and choreographu&nbsp;- and make regular returns to the charming young player, to create a superbly imaginative&nbsp;soufflé for Little Dragon's Lover Chanting.Brilliant stuff, for a&nbsp;fantastic song, which is&nbsp;taken from their brand new ‘Lover Chanting’ EP which is set for release digitally on 9th November with a special 12” black vinyl release scheduled for 16th November.
