William Pope directs a charming, offbeat&nbsp;comedy for Dusted, the new project by Canadian musician Brian Borcherdt, about a dysfunctional English middle class family.&nbsp;The video for Baseball features the escalating tit-for-tat rivalry between a father (played by Michael Fenton Stevens) and his children, (Daisy Waterstone and Noah Carr-Kingsnorth), who take increasingly devious&nbsp;methods&nbsp;to one-up each other - all triggered by the father's selfish preoccupation with his model soldiers.Inspired by classic films like&nbsp;Harold &amp; Maude, Pierrot Le Fou and The Royal Tenenbaums, the visual is split into several chapters, allowing the narrative to follow a traditional film structure whilst still remaining playful and exploratory.&nbsp;DoP&nbsp;Simon Van Parijs leans into the indie vibe by shooting on film, allowing a warm, filmic palette to encapsulate the concept - and Pope's direction of the story and exceptional cast is pitch-perfect.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jonjo Lowe builds on his VFX-fired work for The Big Moon and PREP with a colourful promo for pop debutante Lauren Faith.The director creates a somewhat nostalgic feel for the Falls Right Down video, with&nbsp;retro-styling, pastel purple background&nbsp;and touches of tube-TV blurriness.And Lowe's greenscreen expertise also proved useful in creating&nbsp;a five-piece band of multiple Laurens in one of the main sequences.&nbsp;But ultimately the 'real' Lauren finishes&nbsp;her performance by bumping off her clones. She's a killer queen.

Joshua Stocker transforms a forest at night into a remarkable venue for a captivating dance performance, in his video for Olafur Arnalds' Zero.Dancers Ali Goldsmith and&nbsp;Lucia Chocarro perform a thrilling work of contemporary dance, choreographed by Lauren Bridle,&nbsp;which is illuminated throughout by a drone light system&nbsp;that creates a wash of light among the trees, and lights up a pathway for the performers through the dark forest.&nbsp;It's an almost reverential combination of human expression with the natural world that makes this&nbsp;a wonderful achievement by Stocker and his team - including great work by Steadicam operator Tommy McMahon. A mesmerizing accompaniment to the Icelandic composer/producer's beautiful composition.&nbsp; &nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]

Sye Allen's poignant short film The Empty Chair&nbsp;is about the big stuff - loss, grief, reflections upon the life of a loved one. The beauty lies in how he handles this subject matter - it's direct and intimate, and all the more powerful, humane and uplifting&nbsp;as a result.&nbsp;The form of the film is simple and straightforward: the words of a fulsome eulogy to a departed loved one, read by actress Kate Dickie, accompany images of absence, of his regular haunts: the football stand, the church pews, the cinema stalls and pub stool - and his favourite armchair at home.Allen also wrote and produced this labour of love - ably assisted by a small platoon of music video-making veterans, and his production company Burning Reel -&nbsp;and he succeeds in achieving a balance of emotion and believability without spilling too far into sentimentality. There is also a lovely original soundtrack by Nico Casal, accompanying Dickie's performance.Not surprisingly, the pandemic was a big influence on the making of the film - as Sye Allen explains below. But it's message,&nbsp;about the conduct of our lives and how we are remembered, is relevant every year.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;

Jonjo Lowe's video takes us into the turmoil of three relationships, through dance and cosmic&nbsp;imagery, for&nbsp;British alt-pop group PREP's bubbly Years Don't Lie.Lowe places his characters in a highly&nbsp;stylised world created by 3D animation and makes it work. In this case, a giant moon appears to be about to obliterate the home planet of the three couples, who appear oblivious to oncoming danger. Their passionate feelings for each other are expressed through dance - and in a final twist, they ultimately indulge in some lover-swapping to achieve greater fulfillment.After his similarly stylised video for indie band <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/07/20/big-moon-why-jonjo-lowe/65723" target="_blank">The Big Moon</a>, Lowe's vision of love at the end of the world, matching live action and animation via greenscreen, is a step&nbsp;forward towards a strong signature look.

Joshua Stocker directs a sun-kissed video for Guvna B, about&nbsp;times spent with mates and family, bathed in sun, where everything feels pretty much perfect.The lyrics are about the small things - pouring a mug of tea, changing pampers, or sharing a drink with a mate - and so those little moments form the base of this video. Ordinarily those moments could feel pretty mundane, but with this video is crammed with many tricks to create an ever evolving &amp; endlessly entertaining visual featuring a stream of memorable moments.

The scenery looks magical, and the simple narrative invites us to focus on the natural beauty on-screen. There is an air of calm to the whole visual, not only in the setting, but also in the slow, deliberate camera movements, and hypnotising performance from&nbsp;BrÍet.&nbsp;The organic feel of the majority of the video is juxtaposed nicely with a more stylised, fashion-inspired performance setup. And Simon Lane's video&nbsp;finds greatness in small moments - whether it be a sweeping drone shot of the gorgeous scenery, or&nbsp;holding a take for a couple of seconds between lyrics, allowing us to see&nbsp;fleeting snapshots of BrÍet's vulnerable side.A lovely video that is elevated by its unique location and considered artistry.&nbsp;&nbsp;
