People have put real thought into this video and it shows. Rudá Santos's video for Ross From Friends,&nbsp;for the electronic DJ’s new single The Daisy,&nbsp;blends a reverence for speed-cubing competitions and a bittersweet twist worthy of a sci-fi classic.We are transported through a trippy time-warp to an unassuming park, where a young girl discovers a Rubik’s Cube and a timer on a bench. Her passion for ‘speed-cubing’ ignited, we then follow her on a journey where she works to master her skills.Our young heroine progresses to a speed-cubing competition,&nbsp;battling through to reach her goal in time. As she wins the competition, however, viewers are confronted with a surreal twist...&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Blending an admiration for speed-cubing&nbsp;with the unexpected ending, Rudá Santos also employed 3D animated sequences to bookend the film and reinforce the sci-fi elements. In order to capture authentic, realistic performances, he also chose to cast real Rubik’s Cubers in the promo - including Katie Mouchan-Davies as the main protagonist.

Ben Strebel makes a stunning return to music videos with his wonderful&nbsp;video for Skrillex, Starrah and Four Tet’s new track Butterflies - an impressionistic portrait on the impact of a year of Covid crisis upon a generation, which builds to a simply transcendent&nbsp;climax.With some hugely talented&nbsp;collaborators, including choreographer Holly Blakey, DoP Ben Todd, and the&nbsp;VFX team at Electric Theatre Collective, Strebel channels the frustrations of a generation of youth, whose relationships and&nbsp;opportunies have all been curtailed by the successive lockdowns, into a very contemporary work of visual art.On a London estate, an edgy teenager is a ball of energy as they sit in their room, and when a group of youths gather, the group immediately combine to&nbsp;performing Blakey's intricate, physically demanding choreography. Sheets float in the air, at the Chinese takeaway&nbsp;the youths&nbsp;also play ghosts, covered in sheets - and then the path from gritty reality to heightened sensibility spins into outright&nbsp;fantasy, all within the same concrete world.[imgtoken data:1]The climax of the video is wonderful - and that is partly because you do not see it coming. The kids have now become real ghosts, soaring into the air above the concrete,&nbsp;freed&nbsp;to cavort to the strains of this epic electronic collaboration between Sonny John Moore (aka Skrillex), Keiran Hebden (Four Tet), and Brittany Talia Hazzard (Starrah). This is a brilliantly conceived ballet - created with an ingenious execution of VFX work and camera movement.&nbsp;&nbsp;Strebel has created a wonderful visual for Butterflies, the result of not only his own skill and vision, but the ambition and support of Skrillex. The artist and director&nbsp;had been talking for a long time about working together, and Skrillex took&nbsp;a hands-on approach throughout the process, sanctioning the lengthy&nbsp;period in post production required to make it happen.It was well worth the wait.&nbsp;&nbsp;

CC Wade have created a spectacular Genet-inspired video for Fat White Family: a homoerotic love tragedy set on the battlefield.&nbsp;The directing duo have collaborated once again with Francesca Di Mottola - winner of the award for Best Production Design at last year&#39;s UKMVAs for the directors&#39; video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/09/07/king-krule-biscuit-town-cc-wade/54898">King Krule&#39;s Biscuit Town</a>&nbsp;- to create a complete cinematic world in the studio that would not look out of place in a Powell &amp; Pressburger classic. The long, climactic battle scene, in particular, is a triumph of old-school filmmaking craft.&nbsp;With the label version of the video for Feet released back in January, this version is the Directors Cut - what CC Wade consider the finished video. And it&#39;s a joy to behold.

But how about one where the bullies are so consumed by their digital lives that the only thing that can put a stop to them is a bucketload of emoji-spattered puke?Ben &amp; Ross play with layering these new digital realities on top of some tried-and-true teen movie tropes and it pays off a treat in this sharp and entertaining satire for Real Life.

Youth Hymns have delivered this delightful candy-coated video&nbsp;for New Zealand singer-songwriter&nbsp;Ladyhawke&#39;s A Love Song, set in an 80s video rental store where a bored employee is having a bad day rewinding returned VHS tapes - until she pops in a tape returned by a mysterious character.&nbsp;When Pip Brown aka&nbsp;Ladyhawke flashes onto the screen singing A Love Song, it hits the girl like a cupid&#39;s arrow, driving her to fall in love with - and&nbsp;plant kisses on -&nbsp;everyone coming into the store. Much goofy fun ensues, as the Youth Hymns guys indulge their obsessions with the 1980s and all things VHS, all to a soundtrack of irresistable electro-pop.&quot;Pip wanted to shoot in LA. We took her to Croydon instead,&quot; say Youth Hymns.&nbsp;&quot;When it dawned on us that no video rental stores actually existed anymore, we called our mate Dale from VivaVHS who saved the day. In keeping with the reputation of this hugely influential band,&nbsp;Olivier Groulx has fashioned an entirely uncompromising&nbsp;yet compelling visual style to accompany the first release from Gang of Four&#39;s new album What Happens Next.The video for&nbsp;England&#39;s In My Bones, featuring the magnetic presence of The Kills&#39; Alison Mosshart, is the anthithesis of state of the art digital crispness. It draws the viewer in with the murk and blur of the photography (excellent work by DoP Tim Sidell), and creative edit (likewise, from Vid Price) to combine a ferocious band performance with snapshots of life (and death) in a English country house.It&#39;s also totally in keeping with Olivier Groulx&#39;s own work. From his videos for Arcade Fire to his recent double video for Alt-J, it&#39;s characterised by beautifully-crafted imagery. And this is just the first offering in an ongoing relationship with the post punk legends, who have worked with a fascinating range of vocalists on the new album. Olivier&#39;s video for their collaboration with German icon Herbert Gronmeyer is on its way..

Olivier Groulx&#39;s video for Alt-J&#39;s Every Other Freckle presents an interesting departure, and also a deft solution to any possible accusations of unfair sexual objectification. He&#39;s made two versions of essentially the same video - one with a sexy girl, the other with a sexy boy.And as both male&nbsp;and female (Nathan Whitfield and Eliza Murray)&nbsp;are shot in exactly the same way,&nbsp;they are both very much equally gorgeous. There&#39;s something of the scientific experiment about this approach - will be interesting to see how the views of each version stack up (at the time of writing, Girl has nearly twice as many as Boy).&nbsp;Beyond the gender&nbsp;dynamic,&nbsp;Olivier has created some other lovely photographic set-ups (and including some stock footage)&nbsp;with excellent work by DoP Tim Sidell.&nbsp;
