Drew Kirsch directs a playful performance promo for Charlie Puth and Jung Kook of BTS.&nbsp;Now that Korean boyband sensation&nbsp;BTS have gone on hiatus, each of the members are busy working on their own projects, and Jung Kook has partnered with Charlie Puth for one of the first individual releases.&nbsp;Featuring mischevious performances and a series of abstract vignettes, the concept is an explosion of colour and absurdism, and whilst the scenes are interconnected on a surface level, there is not a clear narrative at play here - and that is one of the things that makes it so absorbing.&nbsp;Taking a page out of the K-Pop video playbook, Kirsch has focused&nbsp;on packing as many spectacular visuals as possible into the two and a half minute runtime, creating a frenetic yet captivating project that feels refreshing and unique.&nbsp;

Josh Sondock has directed an ingenious video for US singer-songwriter Nick Leng that dissembles the process of making a video - indeed the whole idea of image-creation&nbsp;- in one bravura continuous take.It's a bit more complicated than that. Sondock's video for Leng's Morning/Midnight is a film with a Russian Doll structure - or perhaps reverse Russian Doll. Several performances of the track by Leng come together, layered on&nbsp;top of each other. We move outward from a performance that is revealed to be on a monitor, which is then part of a scene which includes Leng performing... and that is revealed to be a take, on a screen. We move out, and also back in, thorugh the increasing number of layers...Sondock has described this as "a one-take music video in which a musician makes a one-take music video in which a musician makes a one-take music video in which a musician makes a one-take music video..." And so on.&nbsp;That is exactly what it is - but, conversely, that does not quite&nbsp;do it justice.[imgtoken data:1]This has the rare quality of being a brilliant concept, which is quickly evident. But there is a uncharted end point, somewhere ahead,&nbsp;which keeps you hooked.&nbsp;Furthermore this idea has tremendous resonance - especially but not exclusively for filmmakers - meditating on the almost ludicrous ubiquity of screens in daily life.Perhaps most crucially of all, this is all about a great (and quite complicated) idea, executed well, and with great clarity. An exercise in smart creativity that makes it one of the most satisfying watches of the year so far.

This absorbing slow-burn of a video for New York rapper Homeboy Sandman begins with his phone conversations with various friends, family and associates around the city. Then it reveals that the recipients of those calls have something else in common. And it builds to a climax on a Brooklyn beachfront, and the fulfillment of the theme and title of the song, Monument.Director Pavel Buryak creates his story with a diverse cast of characters against the gritty backdrop of the city, with a growing sense of mystery that works really well with the metronomic precision of Sandman's rap. Each person possesses a small rock, which they bring with them to the beach. That's when the artist and director take things to the next level.It's probably been achieved on a small budget, but Buryak's video for Monument is really impressive - well considered and constructed, and leading to a satisfying, thought-provoking 'third act'.
