Charting the journey of Ashley Pabón from New York to Mexico City to attend a concert by Juan Magan, Alex De Campi delivers this inventive promo for the producer/DJ. 
"The brief was to shoot a live video in Mexico City, and we pitched to make the journey - which would otherwise eat up a fair amount of budget in travel costs - be the video" explains Alex. 
"Starting in NYC in a snowstorm, we drove south 1,300 miles in 7 days to Mexico City, shooting as we went. We shot on a 7D, with a GoPro as a B camera for timelapse and some effects work."
"It's just an amazing experience having so many geographically unique locations, with different qualities of light, to shoot in, in such a compressed period of time. We were of course sluts for magic hour, so up before dawn to shoot, drive drive drive, and then shoot again at sunset..."

Glen Duncan wrote a book and called it "The Last Werewolf". Stephen Coates/The Real Tuesday Weld wrote a soundtrack to that book, and then Stephen gave one of the songs, Tear Us Apart, to Alex de Campi to inspire a new film. 
Alex spent a solitary month building sets in her mom's garage; then four days filming (in 103 degree heat) with the invaluable assistance of cinematographer Nolan Maloney, 1st AC John Hubbard and grips Dan Politz and Katy Cecchetti. Then another month in post. The puppets were created by Liesje Kraai, and the results are fine indeed.

Lost Weekend is a catchy number which features that a rare beast in modern rock, the totally banging extended guitar solo, and Alex shot the video in a place in Williamsburg, supplemented by a bunch of strangely behaving barflies - and a unicorn. 
"There's a tale behind this one," she says. "I remember hearing that in Joseph Kahn's vid for the Katy Perry single Hot N Cold, he apparently waived his fee so they could throw in the zebra at the end. I saw the video and loved it, but thought, wow, I'm sorry, but any chick (and most gay men) would know that if you're going zebra, you really should take the extra step and go full _____. So, even though our budget was less than the catering fee on a Katy Perry vid, we went the extra step. Wait for it... it happens around 3.05."

To match the neurotic luscious electronica of Gyratory System's Yowser Yowser Yowser, Alex de Campi delivers a robotic, nightmare scenario with lots of CGI and post effects.
"We used lots and lots of robots" says de Campi, "Early reactions have been 'wow, like early Chris Cunningham!' and we've been like 'yeah, but Chris had more than a £400 budget'. Still, it was shot on a Red with primes..."

The title track from the Cardiff indie rockers' third album is described by the band as 'the perfect late Valentine's gift for the one you loathe'. Alex de Campi delivers the same sentiments in her promo depicting the flipside of romance - but one with a satisfyingly brutal ending.

"The idea of "romance" is this crazy set of archetypes of perfection to which we all constantly fall short. Our heads get filled from an early age with Cinderella stories, Mills &amp; Boon novels, soap operas, celebrity luurve stories in OK!... whatever really happens to us in the love department never seems to measure up to capital-R Romance, because we're tired and there's a gas bill to pay and nothing for tea. 
"That's what the video is about, but rather than taking a normal couple, the band and I decided to create the most plastic, perfect types we could and film the emptiness between them in the unwritten chapters after the love story ends. We all could be thinner, blonder, more fit... the video's message is that ultimately it doesn't matter how close you get to "perfect", it isn't necessarily going to make you happier in love. It was a lot of fun taking a very British social-realist film concept, and beaming these perfect Americans in it. 
"Actors Robert Nuzzie and Lauren Francesca had great fun parodying the roles out of which they make the majority of their living - Robert actually poses for romance-novel covers and has had roles in several soap operas; Lauren is an actress of great range and sensitivity who has been on everything from The Daily Show to major broadcast series, but she's had her fair share of roles playing the "hot blonde".  
"Although the video (like so many these days) was done on nearly zero budget, we all had such fun with the concepts within it, especially the fake romance novel cover and the soap opera scenes. Sadly, we weren't able to have the band in the video, but perhaps next time..."
