Music Video Preservation Society celebrates 90s Pop with Vaughan Arnell on June 11th
Promonews - 25th May 2026
The latest meeting of MVPS at The Prince Charles Cinema in London's West End is coming on Thursday, June 11th. It's a celebration of pop videos with a special guest who is a master of the art and craft of the medium - the one and only Vaughan Arnell.
Vaughan has been creating indelible pop video magic since the Eighties, achieving early success with Terence Trent D’Arby, before hitting his stride in the Nineties, initially as half of directing duo Vaughan & Anthea and then as a solo director, with videos for George Michael, Spice Girls, All Saints, Robbie Williams and more. Later he went on to make videos for a new generation of British pop stars - including One Direction and John Newman - with several promos scoring over a billion views on YouTube.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of two videos that raised the standard of UK pop‘s visual world to new heights: George Michael’s Fastlove - the last video directed by Vaughan & Anthea - and Spice Girls’ Say You’ll Be There - the first by Vaughan as a solo director. So we will pay special attention to the period starting in 1996 when Vaughan’s work became part of the cultural landscape, reflecting the confidence and optimism of the time. And these videos remain remarkably fresh - an object lesson to music video directors today on how to make pop videos built to last.
Vaughan will be talking to MVPS host David Knight about his work and influences and we will show some of his jawdropping classics on the big screen.
As ever, there will be lots more besides in the fifth outing of MVPS at The Prince Charles. More videos spanning the decades - including more from the Nineties - plus some of the best videos we’ve seen in the first half of 2026. In the running is another showing of the sensational Romain Gavras-directed video for Gener8ion’s Storm - which caused a sensation when screened at the recent MVPS show at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle, earlier this month.
The next Music Video Preservation Society at The Prince Charles Cinema is on Thursday, June 11th at the slightly earlier start of 8.15pm. Book tickets here.
