Music Video Preservation Society returns on October 17th - with legendary director Steve Barron
Promonews - 25th Sept 2025
Music Video Preservation Society returns for its Autumn edition at The Mildmay Club in North London on Friday October 17th, for another big screen celebration of the artform and cultural phenomenon of music video - from the 1960s and 70s to the 2020s - with a special guest who has directed some of the greatest music videos ever made: Steve Barron.
Steve will be talking to MVPS host (and Promonews editor) David Knight about his extraordinary contribution to the history of music videos, which began in the 1970s with his work for The Jam and other punk and new wave bands, continued in the 1980s with Human League, Michael Jackson, Dire Straits, A-Ha and many others.
Creating videos that were groundbreaking, that made a huge impact at the time and are still treasured today, Steve Barron's work is one of the reasons that music videos became a major artistic and cultural force in the 1980s. And his appearance at Music Video Preservation Society coincides with the 40th anniversary of one of his most famous videos - and one of the most iconic videos of all - for A-Ha's Take On Me.
The meeting on October 17th begins the second year of shows of Music Video Preservation Society at The Mildmay Club and the Prince Charles Cinema. In its first year, MVPS has screened nearly 100 music videos and welcomed great guest directors on stage to discuss their work, including Tim Pope, Luna Carmoon, Walter Stern and Colin Solal Cardo.
• Tickets to the Autumn edition of Music Video Preservations Society at The Mildmay Club on Friday October 17th are on sale now for club members and non-members here.
