Deadbeat Films launches music video division

London-based production company Deadbeat Films are building upon their recent burst of activity in music video production with the official launch of their music video division, featuring a six-strong roster of directors helmed by head of music videos Jack Thompson-Roylance.
The roster features Will Clark, Elliott Arndt, Becky Garner, Caroline Hajny, Jack & Boris, and Ed Zorab - who are all now represented for music videos by Marisa Garner of MGA. The announcement of the roster coincides with the release of Zorab's first video through Deadbeat, for Jonasu & Réve's All Night (pictured above).
"Music videos have always been at the heart of what we do at Deadbeat," says Thompson-Roylance. "I’m so excited to be helming the Music Video department and representing such a diverse and talented range of Directors."
Clark (above right) has emerged as an in-demand director in the past few months on the back of his entertaining videos for Welsh indie-rockers Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard - starting with You, where lead singer Tom drinks too much Sunny D and transforms into an orange, and following with his entertaining double video for Good Day and Break Right In.
"Will is a maverick, with an exceptional eye and visionary approach to image capture," says Thompson-Roylance.
His music industry career began as a creative director at Anglo Management, working with labels and artists directly on their release campaigns in multiple formats. His collaboration with Anglo’s Neil Cowley and his Hall of Mirrors LP, creating a visual LP to accompany the release, then caught the eye of Deadbeat, leading to the hook-up with Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard. He is also the co-founder of JAMÓN, keeping its finger firmly on the pulse of creative marketing and production.
Over the last year or so, London-based German director Caroline Hajny has been making an impact in music videos with her work for the likes of Liv East, Leah Weller, Willie XO and René.
Her background is in documentary and fashion, and it was by photographing stills at concerts and festivals that led her to making her first attempts at music videos.
"Somehow it has escalated to this," says Hajny, before adding that she has also competed in two swimming world championships. "So don’t be surprised if I push my secret underwater shoot agenda."
Elliott Arndt is a Franco-American artist working across a variety of fields, from music and photography to film, performance, illustration and creative direction. He has directed music videos for Laurel (above), Faux Real, Amber Arcades and more.
Submerged from a young age in DIY and punk culture, Arndt cut his teeth working with bands and making skateboarding videos before taking to the stage himself, quickly starting to tour around Europe while keeping the creative helm of several musical projects.
"Elliott is a visionary film maker, gaining attention from worldwide artists from the avant garde to global pop stars," says Thompson-Roylance. "Everyone wants a piece of that Elliott Arndt pie."
Director and editor Becky Garner cut her teeth working for Reebok in the US, editing and self-directing campaigns starring big hitters like Connor McGregor and Lil Baby. Moving back home to London, she has continued to direct and edit commercial content for global brands including Farfetch, Nike, Adidas and others.
Garner balances her portfolio by leading and creating content for various pop stars and bands - including like Zara Larsson, Nick Mulvey, Abbey Roberts and Sea Girls, adapting her mixed media and motion graphic style to maximise social engagement to great success.
Her passion for music sits at the heart of her creative drive and she continues to lend her craft to working with such artists as Bicep, Sub Focus and Kurupt FM on their live shows.
JACK & BORIS
Jack & Boris - the creative directors and co-founders of the award-winning Deadbeat Films - originally carved a name for themselves as go-to guys for cinematic music festival shooting. They quickly perked the interest of labels and commissioners for their signature cinematic style and resourcefulness, and this has led to a relationship with Marisa Garner at MGA and creating successful music videos for artists such as Ghetts, Shakka, Nick Mulvey and Alesha Dixon.
Their recent project YOSHI-The Ultra Violent Kung Fu Sci Fi Queer Revenge Film With Zombies!!! has gained international attention as a music video/short film hybrid, winning numerous awards around the world.
Ed Zorab and trained at the Arts University Bournemouth, before completing a B.A. in filmmaking at the Met Film School, Ealing Studios, and continuing on to build a career writing & directing both short and long form content. His work in narrative, fashion and music promos has gathered millions of views online and attracted an international audience, and achieved recognition by BAFTA for the short film Youth In Bed.
And Deadbeat are announcing the roster just as Ed Zorab's video for Jonasu & Réve's All Night is released. The video features the secret and sexy goings-on within different rooms of a boutique hotel.
Jack Thompson-Roylance says he is hugely excited to be working with the roster. "Elliott, Caroline, Ed, Will Jamon, Becky and Boris all have such unique voices and between them can tackle any brief," he comments. "If singing oranges, rappers immersed within a sea of teddy bears and LGBTQ kung fu fighting aliens sound fun, just you wait and see what we have in store for you next!"
