Georgina Cammalleri signs to Greatcoat Films
Greatcoat Films have officially announced the signing of BAFTA-winning filmmaker Georgina Cammalleri to their directors' roster.
The announcement follows the release of Cammalleri's first film as part of the Greatcoat roster - the Wicker Man-inspired music video for Sports Team's Happy (God's Own Country), released last month. She has also made videos for Swim Deep and The Magic Gang, with her Swim Deep video for To Feel Good earning an UKMVA nomination in 2019.
The move into directing videos follows her career as a documentary director and producer. Over the last ten years Cammalleri has directed and produced documentaries for Netflix, C4 and the BBC, exploring a huge range of subjects, from sporting scandals to true crime.
She produced Gun No. 6, the story of a single handgun which had been passed around as many as 11 different gunmen in six years, and its devastating impact on the community, which won a BAFTA and was nominated at the Grierson Awards. Her latest project is a new feature documentary for Sky Documentaries about women in boxing.
With a inclination towards narrative-led concepts rooted in cinematic worlds, Cammalleri often blurs boundaries between genres to create surreal twists, and enjoys working closely with artists to draw out their best possible performances. “Georgina’s directing approach brings a very different style to the Greatcoat roster, both in terms of tone and structure," says Sandra Spethmann, Greatcoat Films' head of production. "Her music videos live in cinema-inspired worlds that take delight in being free of the shackles of real life.”
Greatcoat founder and MD Simon Oxley adds: “Georgina has that enduring curiosity of great documentary film makers, which allows her to make a sincere connection with the subjects of her films – whether they’re entangled in real-life dramas or the artists and musicians she works with in music videos.”
