Mark Jenkin, acclaimed director of low-budget indie feature Bait, has joined Bullion Productions for music videos and commercials.

Jenkin's signing to Bullion has been announced to coincide with the release of a short BTS film revealing the idiosyncratic and very hands-on process he has employed in making his debut music video, for Flyte's Easy Tiger, while in lockdown in Cornwall.

Jenkin (above, photo by Carla Orrego Veliz) is renowned for assuming every aspect of filmmaking himself, shooting on 16mm Bolex and once it is processed, physically manipulating the film stock. The Making Of Easy Tiger film, directed by Tee Byford, reveals the extraordinary process in which he made the video at his home in the far west of Cornwall - including developing the film himself with household bleach and painting directly onto the negative.  

With work that ranges from the highly abstract to the gripping story and formidable performances in the BAFTA-winning Bait, his feature debut, Jenkin was described as one of the British talents of the decade by influential critic Mark Kermode, who also described the movie as "a genuine modern masterpiece”.

Set in his native Cornwall, Bait tells the story of a fisherman battling to keep his way of life afloat in the face of gentrification. Jenkin discussed the making of Bait with Kermode in a Q&A session following its screening at the BFI Southbank last year.

"Signing with Bullion is an exciting development for me," Jenkin tells Promonews. "Making shortform work with an emphasis on process and experimentation is something I’ve been doing for many years, and I’ve loved starting to apply this approach to music videos."
