The Blaze's Queens and Jon Hopkins' Singularity big winners at 2019 D&ADs
At the D&AD Awards 2019 last week, music videos won prestigious Pencils and commendations galore in both the main Music Video category, and numerous technical categories. Two videos were multiple winners of Pencils: The Blaze's Queens, directed by The Blaze, won four Pencils; Jon Hopkins' Singularity, directed by Jon Hopkins, won three.
Jon Hopkins' Singularity, directed by Seb Edwards at Academy Films (above) won two Graphite Pencils, in the categories of Music Video and Direction, and a Wood Pencil in Cinematography. The Blaze's Queens won a Graphite Pencil in Music Video, and three Wood Pencils, in Cinematography, Direction and Production Design.
Other Wood Pencil winners were Mitski's A Pearl, directed by Art Camp, in Animation; Jack White's Corporation, directed by Jodeb, in Cinematography; Rosalía's Malamente, directed by CANADA, in Direction; Dizzee Rascal ft Skepta's Money Right, directed by Romain Chassaing, in Production Design; and Obongjayar's Never Change, directed by Duncan Loudon, in Low Budget.
Multiple shortlisted videos include A$AP Rocky's Kids Turned Out Fine, Chaka Khan's Like Sugar, Sevdaliza's Shahmaran, Rosalía's De Aqui No Sales and LCD Soundsystem's Oh Baby. Felix Brady, Jessy Moussalem and Paco Raterta were shortlisted in the Next Music Video Director category of the D&AD Next Awards.
