Henry Spychalski self-directs this visceral promo for HMLTD: a worm-centric interpretation of the medieval feudal system through a modern lens. It's one of those videos that really must be experienced first-hand to understand what's going on, and even then, it's very much an abstract presentation with a heavily conceptual spin. That's not to say, however, that it isn't completely breathtaking, because things haven't been this wonderfully weird in music videos for a long time. Costumes? Check. Mud wrestling right in front of the performance setup? Check. Setting fire to a box of worms in tandem with a completely whimsical jazz break? You guessed it...It's a fine return to form for HMLTD, and Hannah Mason's movement direction is the cherry on top, suggesting a sort of violent beauty that compliments the rebellion against reality that is the song, Wyrmlands."In this video, I wanted to explore the liminal space between this world, and the base reality which births that delusion: a violent collision of the real and the unreal; of our delusions and the traumas that create them," says director Henry Spychalski.
