Stefano Ottaviano directs a marvellously cinematic road trip promo for DJ Shadow, filmed in Uzbekistan. The video for Ozone Scraper - the first release from Shadow's latest album - is the story of a man who commits to leaving his home village and explore the land beyond his valley - on the cherished motorcycle, passed down from his father. The bike is old and temperamental, making the journey anything but straightforward, but as he traverses unfamiliar terrain, it all becomes worth it in the end. Ultimately the traveller reaches a state of nirvana, represented by an unforeseen change to another medium. Up to that point, every frame composed by Ottaviano and shot by DoP Andres Arochi is stunning. Boasting breathtaking landscapes and a quietly inspirational character arc, this is a wonderful video which feels like a true adventure - in the spirit of DJ Shadow's new musical direction.

Marco Santi takes us on a quirky little journey to the sea, in his breezy promo for Mox.The video for Pampero follows a middle-aged couple who are stuck in a rut, before the husband decides that a holiday is in order - causing the wife to quite literally faint from her chair. What follows is an idiosyncratic journey to the beach, punctuated with funny, awkward moments and some very fine character acting indeed. The anachronistic styling and vague sense of place adds to the unusual vibe, and it feels like these holidaymakers could be from the 70's or the present day, giving it a universal, relatable appeal. This sense of awkward humour can be difficult to pull off - especially in music videos - yet Santi does so perfectly, using drawn-out shots of weird stares and locked-off shots to let the performances do the talking, and give context to the messy yet charming road trip.

Picking up where the video for Strawberry Lemonade left off, Christian Lee Hutson hitchhikes back to LA, in Waley Wang's quirky road trip performance video for State Bird. We see Hutson don a disguise and hop into the back of a U-Haul, sharing the ride with a couple of enamoured hitchikers, who passionately kiss as he delivers his deadpan performance without a care in the world. From the grey, desaturated streets of New York to the warm glow of LA, the video is anchored by a sense of transition in both location and mindset, perfectly visualised through the attentive colour grade and gentle cinematography.Great work again from Waley Wang and team, which when paired with the first video, encapsulates a poignant and unusual emotional journey.

A young woman leaves the big city to head to back home, in Bill Bleakley's tender promo for Ocean Alley.Backdropped by a stunning desert landscape, we see the main character sprinting towards camera, her business-casual attire ruffled and unkempt. This is a spur of the moment decision that is playing out like a true adventure. After hitchiking and connecting with a love interest along the way, the character finishes the journey alone, ending with a shot of her embracing her parents.It's a simple yet beautiful concept, with a real, classic road-trip vibe. The breathtaking locations act as another character completely, lending the visual a rough and ready edge that matches the protatgonist's spontaneous travels."The band gave me a lot of freedom in coming up with a concept for this one," says Bleakley. "We thought it would be cool to follow a protagonist leaving the city and heading home."To make it feel epic we wanted to cover as much ground as possible in the space of a few days. Hence we drove from Melbourne to Broken Hill and shot along the way."
