Following the hyper-stylised promo for Teriyaki, Rebecca Phillips returns with another self-directed promo, this time for Quicksand. The haunting visual is set in a secretive industrial location, a liminal space in which nightmares and reality collide to create an otherworldly fever dream. With trippy effects and an enthralling performance, the video fits perfectly within Phillips' avant garde videography, and brings to life the preternatural soundscapes in the track. "Quicksand gives voice to the experience of being utterly subsumed in a passionate entanglement, to the point where it almost feels like your skin is being ripped off with the intensity of the attraction, connection and the physical act," Phillips explains."It explores the simultaneous feelings of physical power and energy that can stem from passion while acknowledging the unsettling and intoxicating paradox that what makes you feel more alive is never something you can control and may lead to your downfall."The video exists in an endlessly unfolding liminal space replete with 'white gloved walkers' and a melting outfit that disintegrates, creating the impression that the character is almost drowning in her own desire."
