Cult pop-punk band Neck Deep retreat to their native South Wales (Rockfield Studios) for this old-school performance video, directed by Our World is Grey.It has become incredibly fashionable to mine ’90s rock performance videos as a reference. The improvisational approach of videos for Breeders, Pixies and early Weezer, as well as the cheap 16mm aesthetic of grunge, has become oddly aspirational. So it’s great to see a video that looks authentically like the post-rock videos it is channeling. And appropriate for a young, regional band carrying the DIY spirit of that era.DOPs Jamie Harding and Daniel Broadley deserve a special mention. Their period look, shot on 16mm and Super-8mm, gives the video a homegrown, lived-in quality.
