MIKA shifts gears as he grapples with modern times, in Rupert Höller's beautifully abstract promo inspired by Charlie Chaplin's 1930s classic movie. The video for Modern Times is an industrial-tinged, creative montage of vibrant vignettes, paying homage to Chaplin and the original Modern Times, Talking Heads, and the graphic compositions of Russian constructivism art.Shot in the director's home town of Vienna, the video experiments with various in-camera and visual effects, playing with scale, colour and styling. It's got all the exuberance of a Mika visual, elevated by the heightened, anachronistic aesthetic, and the characteristic focus upon the relationship between design and choreography that's a real hallmark of Rupert Höller's work. They make a good team.
