Ben Cole directs a dazzling promo for up-and-coming pop provocateur Miss Madeline.Miss Madeline has made her name in New York's underground as a pop princess in the Y2K mould: knowing, provocative and largely self-made, down to the dance-led videos she has mostly directed herself. For the video for Trip to the Moon - from her new EP Chemical Spring - Ben Cole takes the archetype at the heart of her persona - the pin-up - and launches it into orbit. The VFX-infused video for Trip to the Moon is a space-age romance that begins in a city park, before racing through a montage of hyper-vibrant vignettes. It's fast, funny, sexy and very stylish. Hopping between dark cityscapes and cosmic pulp - evoking Roger Vadim’s notorious 1968 movie Barbarella - the video is an absolute visual feast. It’s an erotic fantasy that seems to rise out of the groundedness of the park itself. DoP Max Conran keeps the park soft and grainy and saves full gloss for the lunar sequences, whilst choreographer Youlmae Kim gives Madeline and astronaut Connor Jay routines that do justice to the artist's considerable dance chops.
