The biggest artist on the planet is also no slouch when it comes to directing her own videos, as this very ambitious and stylish video proves - featuring Post Malone, and released within hours of the surprise release of Taylor Swift's new album Tortured Poets Department. The video pays homage to various film aesthetics going back a century, evoking early silent films and Tiim Burton's Gothic style - and it was shot by DoP Rodrigo Prieto, Oscar-nominated this year for his work on Killers Of The Flower Moon. It's all black and white (nearly) but it's also a Taylor Swift video through and through, complete with out of this world visuals and intimate, yet scene-stealing performances. Weaving a beautiful narrative between a woman locked in a surreal, asylum-like building, and the man of her dreams who fights to save her (Malone), with brief cameos from Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles (from Dead Poets Society), the video is a feat, spanning several set builds and a range of standout styling moments. The opening two scenes in particular are an absolute knockout.Taylor does it again...
