The Courteeners return with the thrilling final instalment of their Better trilogy, directed by Joe Connor. Written by novelist Emma Jane Unsworth as a short film and split across three videos, the final segment focusses on main protagonist Lauren, who has an out of body experience as a handful of surgeons operate on her. Vivid hallucinations fill the screen as her chest opens up into a black hole, and the further she delves into her labyrinthian mind, the weirder her experience becomes. Haunting and surreal, the visual ends where the first video for Heavy Jacket started, suggesting a variety of possible explanations, from a full-on drug trip to some kind of purgatory. The trilogy's consistent strand, tying together the three segments, is the band performance set-up, once again taking place in front of a retro-futuristic window in a club environment - full of energy and with a knockout performance from Corteeners' frontman Liam Fray.

A pool party goes wrong when a possessed, killer conga line chases after a lovestruck couple in Bousher & Gee's video for Circa Waves.Locking eyes over a dimly-lit pool, two strangers stare at each other expectantly, waiting to see who will make the first move. Traditional boy meets girl story, right? Wrong... Swept up in a conga line, the lighting transforms to sickly hues of nuclear green as the group of partygoers become more threatening. There are shades of The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, as the evil conga line starts coming at our plucky couple from all directions, as the band play on.Hell of a party.

Bombay Bicycle Club's frontman Jack Steadman is having the day from Hell in Louis Bhose's emotional one-shot video for Everything Else Has Gone Wrong. From a bird's eye view perspective, we see Steadman in a mangled position as a variety of passers-by inexplicably start to kick and stomp on him, whilst rooting through what's left of his possessions and snatching them away. And as he continues to stare straight up at the camera and perform, the hustle and bustle around him is never ending, offering no respite from the evils of the world, even in his darkest hour.And it gets really dark. The transition between each set of characters is clever, as ambulance workers attempt to save his life before he is unceremoniously wrapped in a plastic sheet and buried.Ultimately, the core message is impossible to ignore: when you are down and out, some people will treat you like you no longer exist. But it's the people who lift you up and help dig you out of your (quite literal in this case) hole that are the true heroes. Echoing the vibe of Radiohead's Just from almost twenty-five years ago, this video is an updated and fresh take on the one-shot concept, packed full of intelligent imagery and emotional clout.

Irish rock band Pillow Queens explore friendship and shared grief in Kate Dolan's video for Brothers. The video depicts two homeless friends finding a device that freezes time, but rather than showing the hijinx that they get up to with it, Kate Dolan questions what being able to freeze time might be like for them. Perhaps, allowing them to return to homes they may have been cast out of? Or reconnecting with people that they miss? In a world where you could freeze time, the expectations of being tough all the time for everyone around you disappears.Beautifully shot, the performances are top-notch across the board - particularly the leads, Desmond Eastwood and Ryan Lincoln - in a very well executed, emotionally-charged visual.

Director Georgina Cammalleri reunites with Swim Deep, following her music video for To Feel Good earlier this year. Sail Away, Say Goodbye carries all of the Birmingham band’s psychedelic-tinged dream pop, and tells a story of grief that is very personal to lead singer Austin Williams – the song is about the loss of his grandmother after her battle with dementia.We find the band on board a boat that’s lost and going nowhere. Their fortunes take a turn for the worse when a crack in the boat lets water in and sends the boys into the ocean. However, instead of a watery demise, the band find something very different lurking beneath the surface. Cammalleri brings an element of magical realism to the video, giving this sad story a transformative feeling and a sense of hope.“In the face of a desperate situation I wanted to use magical realism to turn the fate of the band around and inject a sense of hope," she says. "Sometimes things arise in life in a way that initially appear as a threat, but ultimately help us to move forward and survive.”The shoot took place over two days. The team purchased a rowing boat and transported it to Ramsgate, where filming took place from the fishing vessel Sea Searcher, out in the middle of the North Sea. The underwater material was filmed in an underwater tank in Croydon.

F*** this photocopier. Marika rocks her corporate hellhole in this simple, effervescent video by Louis Bhose.Somehow, Marika Hackman has ‘given up her soul’ for an ill-fitting suit and a dead-end office job. And she’s starting to wonder how she got here. In a fantasy sequence, she performs inside an enormous, strobing photocopier. Which she proceeds to smash.Hackman has charisma in buckets, or ‘BDE’, to borrow her phrase. In the visual cycle for her upcoming album Any Human Friend, we’re beginning to realise quite how much comic potential the songwriter has always had. Most recently, she had a star turn in Will Hooper’s dry and relatable I’m Not Where You Are. It’s a treat to see rockstar Hackman, and in classic pop video mode; The One could easily be a long lost visual for Heaven 17 or The Human League.The concept is Hackman’s own. According to Agile Films, the story behind it reads a little like this:“Marika Hackman: I want to do a performance vid in a photocopier, where the imagined rockstar in me performs with gusto as the mediocre, let-down version of me watches.Hack Video Director: say no more”.
