The Kinks 'Sunny Afternoon' by Tom Readdy & Lucy Dawkins
Promonews - 9th June 2026
To celebrate the release of The Kinks' timeless classic Sunny Afternoon sixty years ago, Tom Readdy and Lucy Dawkins take us back to swinging London in the summer of 1966, courtesy of the cutting edge cut-out animation style of the times, pioneered by Terry Gilliam.
"We were very excited to make a video for the 60th Anniversary of The Kinks’ classic Sunny Afternoon," say Readdy and Dawkins. "We wanted to lean into the humour of the track and create something playful, taking inspiration from the cut-out animation, surreal comedy and anarchic energy of Terry Gilliam’s work for Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
"With a tight turnaround, the approach needed to be bold, characterful and achievable without losing any of the charm of the song. The collage style gave us a way to build a world quickly, full of texture, movement and visual gags. We had a lot of fun making this one!"
