Cameron Perry captures the rawness of heartbreak in his video for London alternative/indie outfit Whitelands, tapping into the mood of the films of Wong Kar-wei and featuring top young British acting talent in David Jonsson and Honor Swinton Byrne.

The video for Glance - the second that Perry has directed for the band - sees the characters played by Jonsson and Swinton Byrne in two deeply contrasting scenes, interwoven through the video for maximum emotional effect.

From the intimacy and joy of their affair to the misery of being in each other's presence at a party following their breakup, Perry focusses entirely upon the pair and their emotions, conveyed powerfully by the actors, captured in impressive cinematography by Tom Martin.

The influence of Wong Kar-wai is clear and the director gets the most from his stellar leads - Jonsson is a BAFTA Rising Star winner, who appears in new movie The Long Walk and TV hit Industry - and Swinton Byrne played the lead in Joanna Hogg's two-part movie The Souvenir.

"Narrative music videos are always a unique challenge: without dialogue to rely on, it becomes pure visual storytelling," says Cameron Perry, who has enjoyed success on the festival circuit with his short films.

"Working closely with my cinematographer Tom Martin and production designer Katie Johnson, I aimed to capture three distinct timelines in the story, marked by shifts in lighting and design, and carried by the depth of the cast’s performances.

"It was a privilege to work with David and Honor. Usually it takes five takes to find one great moment, but with them, one take gave us five."
