holybones 'Saltywater' by Holybones
Rob Ulitski - 31st July 2025
Enigmatic alt-electronic outfit holybones self-direct the atmospheric promo for Saltywater, following the band to the countryside to undertake a cathartic ritual.
Packed with fast-cut, abstract shots and a fresh twist on traditional folklore, the cinematic visual represents the band's struggle to reach their current state of creative freedom, through the symbolic act of burning an effigy. But to add to the enigma, following the ceremonial act, their faces are bound in bandages.
"We wanted the video to show how letting go of the past can be violent and difficult, but it can lead to a confusing and complicated freedom," the band have stated. "We have roots where we shot it and it felt right to tell a bit of an urban myth for this one.
“We met hiking in 2020. We come from all over the shop - music, theatre, poetry. When we met at the start of this project, we all felt anonymous - living in London in your 20s can do this. In that hinterland, we banded together to make a project that reflects that feeling; everybody being lost together.
"We found each other and we found a home - holybones. We wear the bandages for the same reasons anyone would - to hide or to heal.”
