Directing collective Boy Dykes' second video for Kae Tempest following the emotional Statue In The Square unfolds in Salvatore Barbershop, a 102-year-old institution on Kingsland Road, East London.
In this intimate, iconic space, Kae Tempest enters into a silent exchange with their younger self. The mirror becomes a portal. The barber’s chair, a site of quiet change. Fragments of Kae’s past performances are woven into a hypnotic rhythm, a dialogue between memory and voice.
As the film builds, Kae is joined by a crowd of queer performers and dancers. There’s no spectacle, just joy, rawness, and presence. Anotehr fine celebration of this hugely talented artist by Boy Dykes - that's Juliette Larthe, Jesse Glazzard, Lydia Garnett and Jess Kohl.
