In a park in a virtual summer - represented by a flower stall and a bench in a studio - a man keeps waiting for somebody who will never be there, in Sarah Jacquier's video for French artist Blackdoe.

SARAH JACQUIER:

We wanted to get the feeling that this world was virtual while doing everything on stage...

"We were just going out of the first lockdown in France, and the feeling of freedom, the sweet Indian summer feel, got mixed with the realization of how much our world had actually changed. Technologies are taking more and more space in our lives and inspired me to portray, like a moving painting, this artificial summer.

"Lotus has a very fresh and distinctive touch that instantly reminded me of an end-of-the-day Californian summer, but in a parallel virtual reality beach, hosted in the innards of the Silicon Valley.

"We wanted to get the feeling that this world was virtual while doing everything on stage, to keep an organic, artisanal feeling. So, we asked the artist Alexandra Terrazzoni to create a series of skies that we projected directly on the wall.

"In this electronic world, there is no distance. We get inspiration from everywhere. There is no border between our cultures as we see with the song, which is a collaboration from France to Korea. In this video that we shot in France, we have Afro dancers, references from California to Seoul… This is the world we are living in today and it is so exciting."
