Oliver Malcolm 'Switched Up' by Jess Kohl
Rob Ulitski - 28th Feb 2020
Jess Kohl directs a memorably frenetic performance-based debut for superproducer Oliver Malcolm, who finds himself in snowy terrain, out on his own.
Stumbling towards a broken payphone and into a hypnotic dance, Malcolm is out of place and very possibly out of his mind. Jumping into the air and onto his back, the artist dives headfirst into the role whilst spitting out the lyrics.
DoP Eli Arenson utilises experimental camera movements to match the frenzied energy of the performance, creating a raw and gritty aesthetic.
