Sarah Mary Chadwick 'When Will Death Come' by Tristan Scott-Behrends
Rob Ulitski - 18th Feb 2020
Three women simultaneously fall apart in Tristan Scott-Behrends' video for Sarah Mary Chadwick.
Switching between a waitress, a new Mum struggling with her baby and a customer sitting at a table with her partner, the visuals are a charming yet tragic slice of life. All of these women are trapped in a state of melancholy, their passionate lip-syncing the only escape from a tortured and difficult existence.
Whilst the themes are quite dark, the actual execution is far more entertaining and light. DP Kelsey Talton's use of colourful lighting and energetic camera movement juxtaposes the song's melodramatic calls of "When will death come?". Life is difficult but not without its moments of joy, even in the darkest of times, and this project really explores the balance between hopelessness and the comedy of a tragic situation.
