Céu 'Coreto' by Aline Lata
Rob Ulitski - 13th Jan 2020
Aline Lata creates a sensual expression of protest for Brazilian singer-songwriter Céu.
In the video for Coreto, the Latin Grammy award-winning artist uses the beauty and natural talent of her voice to fight back against censorship. Inspired by the symbolic imagery of filmmaker David Lynch, Lata’s visuals range from 80s throwback dance choreography in rooftop bars to objects burning in confined and repressed spaces.
The piece also features cameos from São Paulo icons such as sound systems artist “Jimmy the Dancer” and post-punk frontwoman Jonnata Doll of Jonnata Doll and the Solvent Boys.
Beautifully shot with mesmerising locations and lighting, Coreto feels intimate yet bold, a meditation on a woman's power to fight back against oppression and the right she has to be unashamedly herself in every situation.
