Maisie Peters 'Adore You' by Luke Bather
Rob Ulitski - 8th Oct 2019
Maisie Peters gets a mannequin boyfriend in Luke Bather's charmingly offbeat video for Adore You.
The mannequin in question - named Ethan Derek according to Maisie Peters' YouTube description - is obtained through a mail order catalogue. Like most love stories this one starts positively, as they dance around, have dinner dates and even pick out outfits to wear. It isn't long however before the cracks start to appear. Ethan is just too quiet, too unattentive...
As things come to a head, she throws him out (along with his bold fashion choices), and returns to the catalogue, hoping to have better luck with the new models that are now available. Don't worry too much about Ethan though, he gets a second chance at love too.
A surreal yet glossy narrative is enhanced by a strong performance from Peters, who totally sells the concept - an even greater achievement when your acting partner is so wooden). And the colourful palette complements the laid back, feel-good vibe of the track.
LUKE BATHER:
"A stark, unflinching, neo-realist gaze into the hollow future of love.... not really. Here's a cute vid with a mail-order mannequin boyfriend.
"We shot one rainy Friday and then seven days later it was out. Delivered the final video at 8am on the morning of release and have been asleep ever since."
