Plan B 'It's A War' by The Firepit
David Knight - 4th May 2018
Following the linked trio of performance videos for tracks from his new album, Plan B's video for It's A War takes the song's theme as the jumping-off point for a satire on online trolling.
Warner's in-house team at The Firepit have created a witty and on-point dissection of one of life's fixtures - the YouTube comments under the video. The result -inspired by the sort of comments that Plan B's work has attracted in the past -Â blurs the line between full official video and lyric video, as Alice Backham's animation breaks through the screen wall to make the YouTube comments three-dimensional.
And its not all doom and gloom either. There's a nice nod to BUG host Adam Buxton's funny dissection of a classic YouTube comment under Strickland Banks-era Plan B vids.
WILL NICHOLS (Creative director):
"The track is about the type of wars waged when opinions are voiced online. We wanted to create something that encapsulates some of the extreme comments that Ben Drew (Plan B) gets on his videos. The extreme left and right views voiced (particularly on Guess Again and iLL Manors) by fans and non-fans of Plan B’s music.
"Working closely with Ben and his team, we have created a unique twist on the lyric video, with real comments cut into visuals in the familiar YouTube interface. We also had to play homage to the infamous ‘wot is buk’ comment that Adam Buxton parodied in BUG."
