Dan Black ft Kelis 'Farewell' by Chic & Artistic
Cat Velez - 17th May 2017
French director-duo Chic & Artistic aka Corinne Black and Axel d’Harcourt have taken on Dan Black's nostalgia heavy song Farewell with childlike playfulness.
Using twenty five monster disguises to represent different memories, creatures dance, move and quickly strobe from one to the next. The costumes are sculptural works of art in and of themselves - as Chic & Artistic explained, "each monster is a unique, original creation, made using multiple techniques, including the recycling of materials. They are designed to represent the distorted memories of a relationship, the half forgotten moments, the amplified details."
"A key lyric for us was “The way we were, now just a dream”. The people we meet and the history we live all lead up to the person we now are. The strobing animation effect is supposed to visualise the strobing nature of recollection."
