PAULi 'The Idea Of Tomorrow' by Rohan Blair-Mangat
David Knight - 29th Mar 2017
PAULi manifests in several incarnations in Rohan Blair-Mangat's video for The Idea Of Tomorrow.
It begins with the unmistakeable voice of Idris Elba reading a poem that serves as an introduction to the visuals that follow, in which PAULi performs snatches of different songs in various guises. At the start, he's a parachutist hung from a lamppost, before becoming a cyclist with wings roaming the streets and finally playing keyboards on a rooftop.
And throughout, Blair-Mangat intermittently reveals another PAULi character, who lives in the smoke-filled forest, with the girl of his dreams. The whole effect is dreamlike and evocative, and a fine showcase for an intriguing new artist.
