Ibibio Sound Machine 'Give Me A Reason' by Ciaran Lyons
David Knight - 23rd Feb 2017
Ciaran Lyons applies his distinctive pixellation technique to the vibrant, colour-saturated performance of Ibibio Sound Machine, and a song about the 276 Chibok girls who were abducted in Northern Nigeria in 2014, and who mostly remain missing to this day.
CIARAN LYONS:
"The song questions why girls should be denied the right to education and why people in general should not be free to be who they want to be in life. Pretty hard to tackle the gravity of the subject matter within a music video so we instead tried to bring out a sense of of the power in [ISM singer] Eno's performance and play off the sounds of the song.
"The aim with the video was to create something that would do justice to the vibrancy and energy of the song. I felt like I could hear lasers, flashing lights, and dancing. Eno is such a great performer, and she has such striking stage costumes, that she made the shoot itself really easy and fun. Afterwards, all I needed to do was create some of those lasers and flashing lights - which I did by hand drawing them."
