Beating Heart 'The Work (Rudimental Remix)' by Iain Simpson

David Knight - 28th June 2016

Director Iain Simpson has taken a trip to Malawi on behalf of Beating Heart, a project that combines music originally recorded in the country in an epic field recording project, remixed by contemporary artists.

In the case of The Work, remixed by Rudimental, it is a wonderfully uplifting piece of music - and don't we all need that right now. Simpson has done it wonderful justice on with this tour around Malawi - made with the help of fundraiser Love Support Unite (Lovespecs) - which, with the considerable assistance of DoP Aymen Fahmi, shows what a beautiful country it is.

The core music on the Beating Heart Malawi album comes from an archive of 35,000 field recordings across Sub-Saharan Africa, between the 1920s & 1970s by Hugh Tracey. An extraordinary legacy. And the prceeds for the album will go to assist people in the areas where the music was originally recorded. A very worthy cause indeed.

IAIN SIMPSON:

"The Beating Heart journey has been an amazing one. I wanted to make something that would raise awareness for the Love Support Unite foundation in Malawi and fate would have it that I met Beating Heart's founders Ollie Moira and Chris Pedley and we began discussing a music video which would join the dots between Beating Heart, Rudimental and Love Support Unite (Lovespecs).

"The hearts you see at the beginning are what you see when you put on a pair of Lovespecs which is the reason that I first became involved with the project and it's also the reason that Ollie first ventured to Malawi where he met Chris and decided to start Beating Heart. It's such a beautiful country with amazing people and thanks to donations to our fundraiser, I was able to hire a Sony FS700 and Sony FS7 and go out there with Aymen Fahmi to shoot this video.

"Mike Tamman was with us filming with Josh Helliker for Beating Heart's content side of things and it was a pleasure teaming up to bring home so much stunning footage. Seeing it all come to life in the grade with Jason Wallis at ETC was like being back in Malawi - an experience I'll never forget."
