Leo Kalyan 'Get Your Love' by James Barber
David Knight - 12th Oct 2015
James Barber takes Leo Kalyan on a stunning and colourful road trip through the south west France in his debut music video for Get Your Love, shot on various formats in numerous breathtaking locations. And James and his cameraman Stefan Yap orchestrate their shots so that Leo remains as a mysterious presence throughout, despite being in nearly every frame.

JAMES BARBER:
"This was a really fun video to make. Myself, Leo and DP - Stefan Yap, spent four days travelling round the South West of France - flying into Biarritz, spending a couple days there, travelling into the French Pyrenees mountains, hiking, pony trekking... and taking in lots of picturesque French towns, villages and cakes along the way. In fact, we pretty much lived off madeleines and ice tea for the whole trip. Which was nice.
"Leo creates all of his own artwork and it has a mixed media / collage feel to it - and after early discussions between the two of us, we were both really keen to replicate and experiment with a similar mixed media style within the video's look and feel.
"So with that in mind we shot a combination of Super 8 film, some on 5D and then we shot a whole load on RED Dragon as well - then playing around and experimenting with shooting through fabrics, shooting at 8fps, shooting off reflections, through water and various other in-camera techniques - which gave us a film that in sections still had a really cinematic feel, but also had these more artistic, textural moments that really complimented the nostalgic, rose tinted, summer tones of the record."
