Solemn yet beautifully shot, Martijn Rijnberg's video for Gonna Stop Killing by American singer Carla Bozulich is directly inspired from the song's lyrics. It explores a turning point in the existence of a hitman as he is retiring from his profession and ready to embrace a new life.

Some stylistic choices, such as the dark, earthy colour palette and the high-contrast shots - making for some blinding lights and morbid blacks - serve to drive the all-encompassing bleakness throughout. The wide, coffin-like dimensions of the video keep us close to the ground - and by allowing little space above the man's head- achieves a cloistered, claustrophobic effect.

It features Steven Lucke as the hitman – and a special mention goes to his close friend Roy, the senior parakeet.
